Much prefer the escapist. At least this way old boyfriends that I dumped years ago for cheating on me can't find me and be all "HEEEYYY wuts goin on gurl" and crap like that. :|

Plus, most of the friends I had back in my home town were fleeting ones at best; I have no particular desire to get in touch with any of them, or any of my extended family.

I'm not sure what's being asked. The Escapist and Facebook are two totally different things. It's like comparing Quiznos and Subway. Yes they are both sandwich shops, but they serve totally different niches and provide a different set of options from one another.

If you mean socially, I vote Facebook. As great as this community is here, none of the two friends I have here are people that I know personally. As much as I respect their presence, and as cool as they seem, they aren't real friends. But Facebook allows me to keep up with what's going on in the lives of people that I care about. Sure, there are plenty of lame status updates, but who cares? I don't. The format on Facebook is designed to fill that purpose. The purpose of knowing what is happening in your friends' lives.

The Escapist on the other hand, has all kinds of content. This serves a much different purpose than Facebook. Contentwise, I'll go Escapist. Facebook can't tell me about big developments in the game industry. It can't enlighten me to Yahtzee's or Dan Floyd's ramblings either.
I agree with this man here. Facebook is social and The Escapist is entertainment, so they can rarely be compared to one-another.

However, The Escapist DOES have a lot of social-networking elements to it( Private messages, profiles, etc), but it's not it's main focus.

I prefer the Escapist. I don't have Facebook, much to the horror and astonishment of my friends. They don't seem to quite understand that not everyone wants to have Facebook.
Same situation, at least here on the escapist I can get things done in the forums and generally post something that becomes a Hot Thread

I visit here every day, and I check my Facebook profile every 1-3 weeks...

So my beloved Escapist trumps Facebook...

Um... both? These two sites are so radically different that it's impossible to compare them. I tend to end up with two browser tabs open, one running Facebook and the other running the Escapist.

That said, the Escapist is my home page, so I suppose that it may have the edge over Facebook in that regard.

The Escapist. It's easier to manage, it has a ton of fun to check out and interesting discussions. Facebook is a lot more mindless, I only use it to post funny videos and keep in touch with people. :p

I spend more time on here. browsing the forums and watching videos.

If I browsed Facebook forums all I'd find is, "YoUUUu FKIN rRrRAcisT ****!!1!!! Uu fKin lyk WHIte choc MORe thAn dARK!!11!" and videos of little immature boys setting fire to their farts.
Facebook doesn't have forums...XD
On group pages, there's a discussion section which is pretty much forms.
It is the dark side of the Internet...

I currently have two tabs open on my internet. One is facebook, the other is the Escapist. I use both very frequently.

The Escapist I think I prefer though. Some of my best friends are on facebook, but the idiots who I accepted friend requests from out of indifference outweigh them. Here, there are a lot of intelligent people.

I rarely use Facebook, and it's always been pretty boring to me, so the Escapist it is!

How do you compare them? I mean these are two website meantfor very different things. I use Facebook to stay in touch with friends, find out what they've been to, chat with them, share funny videos, organise nights out ect. I can add people I've just met or new friends and get to know them better.

Escapist? It's place where I come to talk with random strangers on the internet about inane things such as making the bed in the morning or what kind of music I like. Given the volume of posts on the escapist most of the time my replies just go un-noticed. It's all simply a big waste of time when I should be doing more important work such as UCAS or course work...

"Lol I'm not on Facebook, look how cool and self important I am, I'm so fucking counter culture."
