I'm not sure it'll sell too well on consoles to be honest, the only reason Crysis exists is so PC fanboys can show off how much money they've poured into their gaming rig.

=P

(Obligatory "cheeky" smiley in order to emphasise tounge-in-cheek tone of post and avoid banhammer for inciting flame-war...)

It's a good thing that it's not PC exclusive because Crysis 2 will probably put a new much higher standard on graphics on consoles and that way the evolution in gaming will go much faster, you know what Im sayin'? :]

Though Crysis 2 may become more mainstream and try to appeal to younger crowds (console crowds) so it will be more simplistic (dumb-downed) and that's not a good thing.

How is this going to take down PC gamers a peg or two? The graphics, sound, and freedom provided by PC is still going to remain superior forever. That's the price paid by console gamers if they want cheap, limited systems that are "easy" to use.
Sound? Isn't that the speakers job, not the consoles?
What do you think produces the sounds for the speakers to produce? Producing high quality sound, paerticuarly surrond sound (which has gameplay advantages) can be a systems hog.
Okay. I've hooked up both my gaming PC and my PS3 to my 5.1 surround system though, and I can't hear much of a difference. Had them both for at least two years.

Never said that you would, but it depends on the quality of the speakers, the avaliabilty of both games. And of course the quality of the sound card in you're "gaming" PC.

Rember a top end gaming PC these days can have dedicated ram on its sound card. Its not only which sounds better, but which sounds better without degridation to other aspects of the expereince becasue your sounds taking up to much runtime/memory. I've had Pc's with less ram than you can get on a soundcard these days.

My sound card is decent. Well, decent enough to support 7.1; (only have 5.1 though.) Dedicated ram you say? On a sound card? I'll look into that; thank you and adieu!

Ever listen to a premium audio interface like my EMU-1616M? It's a world of difference.

If it can be released for consoles, then why not? More fun for all.

No point being stingy about it and making it exclusive, like so many other games (looking at you splinter cell).

Console players will not be able to handle its complexity and will be driven insane. No one but a hardcore PC gamer can fathom the depth of the story and the sophisticated characters.

Seriously though I dont think it really matters what platform it is on. When games like this get brought across to consoles like battlefield was they turn out quite well but they will always be better on PC
I rofl-ed. Really. the game was fun and I have warhead as well, but you honestly just made my day, thanx. depth....*chuckles*

With Crysis Crytek shot themselves in the foot, they made a game that maybe 10% of PC gamers could actually play at worthwhile settings from release day. Warhead was muc hbetter in that respect, but the reputation was already established.
You run the game on medium graphics people. It still looks damn good and my pc is still with me. I have 2.67GHz 3Gb ram and I run it on high graphics now-a-days. Mostly because I'm patient enough to wait for loading screens to do their work.

Is this always a bad thing? I mean look at Team Fortess 2, axing a crapload of conecepts from it's faster, more complex predecessors. Yet when it came out people loved that game so much I swear they fucked it.

I have been dissapointed with dumbed-down games in the past, however - Perfect Dark Zero, Deus Ex 2 etc. but I don't think Crysis 2's apparent dumbing-down will harm the game too badly. Unlike a certain other Deus Ex 3.

I trust Crytek, so I have no problem with it being multiplatform.
BUT if I see one dumbed down control I'll be pissed: "Hold RELOAD to customize weapon" my ass! We have spare keys for that.

I hate holding keys.

I wouldn't say it's always a bad thing, I think a lot of it depends on the motivations behind the changes to whether it will be a problem or not. If it's for streamlining purposes and unnecessary complexity is removed then I'm all for that, but if you look at the difference between Rainbow 6 and RS:Vegas it's clear that they removed all the planning stuff for the sake of making it appeal to a wider audience, which I don't think is a good thing.

I think I'm definitely in the minority that I preferred TFC, a game that I spend god knows how many hours playing and mastering, to TF2 and I was routing for Fortress Forever. I know what you're saying though, it's still brilliant in my mind and a shining example of streamlining rather than dumbing down.

PC only. They did dumb down the game for the consoles.

Crysis 1 and Warhead had 4 modes for the armor - Stealth, Armor, Speed and Strength. We accessed them by pressing middle button + moving the mouse and selecting.

Now we have 2, to make sure there is just one button - "Switch Modes", just so the console players don't get confused...

And with that, the thread is /threaded.

Annoyingly the amount of 'good' streamlining has occured considerably less than the amount of 'bad' dumbing down.

Also, I'd be playing TFC if it weren't for the amount of bots and getting steamrolled by people who have played the game for 5281 hours.

[sub]But I prefered Unreal Fortess. Bah.[/sub]

Couldn't agree with you more. I wish more devs would take the Stardock approach and realise that you can't make games to suit everyone all at once and it's entirely possible to make profitable niche games without compromise.

It's a real shame that TFC has died. It's easily my favourite online FPS game ever. I remember playing it for the first time and getting steamrolled myself, but it was hugely satisfying to work at it and be given the choice of either "get better or quit". Too many games these days revolve around instant gratification.

I'm all for keeping it for PC since, deny it at will the PC market seems to be going down, which makes me sad. Now there is no real justifyable reason to get the 600$ graphics card.

Except Crisis 2 and making WoW Cataclysm and Starcraft 2 look soooooooo awesome

There's actually 4 options still, they've just stacked them differently. There's something like Stealth and Tank modes (Tank is armour + strength + speed or something like that) on which you layer one of the other 2 options (ones a tactical mode to reveal enemy locations and enhance audio so you can hear them speaking I think). They've made the system better, it always felt a little clunky to have to switch so furiously mid-firefight.

So yeah, I think someone owes console players an apology.

EDIT: I just looked at how old that comment is, but still.
