Ass rule... simple as that... If I'm going to be staring at someone's behind while I play then it should at least be mildly appealing. The dude option doesn't work that way for me :/. I don't pretend to be female just because of the character, and the way I talk generally gives it away before I have to say it anyway.

In the case on multiple characters, I'll take at least one of each since there may be a gameplay mechanic that associates your gender into it.
I just make sure there wearing a cloak...and ill look at something else...im not stairing at fake ass for ...god knows how many hours a day lol

Before I quit (obviously) the only player that I played as a female was a nelf warrior that I named "Nelfstitute"

The reason I usually play men is that there's no reason to play a woman unless you plan on pimping her out, in my opinion.

MMOs - female. Males tend to be either too effeminate or The Hulk.

Other games - female if there is a chance at f/f action, usually male otherwise (unless chara design is bad).

In MMOs i'm always a guy, but in fighting games like Street Fighter or King of Fighters I like playing as a girl...not sure why.

I usually tend to play as female characters, though it does depend on the situation

I know it seems wierd as a guy playing female characters but I prefer it and haven't had awkward situations....yet

I play as a guy.

The reason for this is because if I play as a girl I act incredibly immaturely with the Name option.

I play as a girl because girls are better.

Actually once I played as a guy in an MMO, made a male friend, played with him for months, and then finally told him that I was actually a girl. It blew his mind. Good times.

Usually for the first or my main playthrough I make the character look as much like myself as possible. Other than that, if I'm just doing it for shits and giggles I'll make a girl or some random combination of features.

My first/main character is usually male, modeled after myself if possible, but after that I try to switch it up a bit. In the rare case that I make a lot of different characters, I do tend to make more female characters than male ones, mostly because of the "if I have to stare at someone's butt all the time, it might as well be a pretty butt"-argument.

Depends on the gear look and the animations. Usually I'll stick with male characters, but I will try a female character if the animations are better in general.

I usually play as a guy since I am a guy.

But on my second or third playthrough I usually play as a girl.

Mostly a guy, but a fair few times a girl actually(I'm actually a guy...) simply because it's.. Different, I guess. I don't do it to be treated differently, and I don't pretend I'm a chick. Although, it has led to some hillarious misunderstandings.

I play a mix of characters, mostly because I am a role player at heart. I choose gender baced off what I think is cooler for the character. Case in point; my Shepperd in Me and Me2 is female... because I think a badass female Shepperd is, well... badass. However, my male rouge/ranger in dnd is a male because the image of the character in my head was that of a male. I't all depends on what I want for a character at the time of creation, and so I have no preference (with the exception of LotrO, where male hobbits just can not be taken seriously. I mean, at least female hobbits don't look hilarious 100% of the time.)

Whichever has the best character model.

Some games have shit Female models, some games have shit Male models.

I prefer male, though.

It's usually male if I can only have one save game. More then one though and it's usually an even ratio.

Aside from that, female characters are usually look nicer and/or have faster move-sets. Two qualities I like in a character. Males in a lot of games are usually bulkier and are't quite as agile. I always lean towards the faster characters.
