The Xbox 360 controller gets my vote. Not only does it feel the best while being held but it's also the most visually appealing. The only downside is the terrible D-pad.

N64 controller was simply the worst when it came to trying to use the D-Pad.[Or the Yellow 4 buttons for that matter, but not as much].
3 prongs was also not a smart idea.
Personally I have always liked the original Playstation controller the best, it felt cheap and whatnot, but the layout was simply the best.
The original X-box controller layout is why I don't own one.

Seconded. I loved the Dualshock for years up until a year ago when I bought my 360. Now I am one with the 360 Controller. I picked up my brothers PS3 controller the other day and almost threw it across the room it was so light. It didn't seem right. Although, I love the features *cough* USB chargingEclectic Dreck said:

I have a PS3, but I must confess I like the XB360 controller better. The thumb sticks on the PS3 are convex, is really annoying, while the thumb sticks on the XB360 are concave which makes your thumb rest on them more securely.

I voted for the Xbox 360 controller, but both it and the original are equally great because they are the most comfortable and... natural for me.
Otherwise, I would vote for the Dualshock controller. While not as comfortable as the 360, it was pretty awesome in its day.

#gamecube- button placement was horrible. -c- that yellow joy stick thing...WTF is that worthless crap
#xbox 360- forms to your hands and makes you feel sexy. works well with all games. except the d-pad is shit.
#ps3- feels so unnatural to use in fps's. is it only me or does everyone elses thumbs bump each other when using this crap. except the d-pad works well.
#wii- makes you look like an idiot when playing with it. wins for innovation. you cant really classify this with the other controllers though because its more of and instrument. ex: such as the duck hunt gun for nes.

Yeah, I don't get that. It's probably because I have small hands, but those with smaller hands that I know get the same thing. The 360 controller is simply too large and uncomfortable for all of us. =\thegrandtaco said:

I can't agree =\. The SNES was the best for me. Single shoulder buttons, four pads, skinny profile, fit in your hands perfectly...
I don't really see how that behemoth of a control could fit well in anybodies hands =\.
