Frontline support, because they'll teach me something useful that I can use outside of the military.

Anyway I would still refuse to serve because first of all the law you said is for men aged 18-35. Can women not work in factories or cook? You want me to sign up the law would have to apply to every man, woman and tranny. Also those lazy worthless politicians I mentioned would have to do it as well. I won't give up months of my life if our "leaders" can't be bothered doing it alongside me.
Women would not be forced into service, though if they applied for it they would be given the same options. And yes, there would be plenty of things wrong with this kind of law, but as I stated in the original post, we assume the situation to be what described. At least those politicins would have to send their sons to the mix, even if they (along with everyone else old enough) would be spared the effects of the law.

It disappoints me to see such a low level of courage here sometimes, either you fight or someone else has to fight for you. We all die eventually, better to live a shorter life of meaning then twenty more years as a coward which serves nothing but himself.
It's not a lack of courage, it's a lack of giving a shit.
Why the fuck should I die for my country? I don't even like it that much.

But hey, if you have that attitude, then good for you. I'll be here, alive.
Where do your friends live, or your family? Is retreat an option? what happens to them if you lose?

No-one asks you to die for a 'country', or to die at all, dying while an option is rarely a guarantee. You fight for your loved ones, to protect them.

What are you, Fre... Okay, that's too easy.

I'm allergic and I have high blood pressure. Which is ironic, because I could easily be a sniper thanks to my aim.

What, you guys still haven't dropped the whole conscription thing?
Poland doesn't force into military any more. This year was the last time they did so, next year and later it's a choice you don't have to make.

I thinks I'd do the Long-range combat.
Short time
Long range
Means I'm less likely to die!
Sounds good to me
Plus I like to Snipe
Pew!
[small]If sniper rifles don't go 'pew' in the army I'll be extremely disappointed[/small]

So you would have served in the Nazi army to protect Germany as the allies pounded down on it? Better to live a short life of meaning right?

Christ it's people like you who don't question the direction of a country which make the world a dangerous place.
WTF?!

How the hell do you go from a talk to conscripting for training in a military in case of a war to me being a Nazi sympathizer?!

I expect an apology.

Don't worry. Godwin's law.

Seriously though, people in the German army weren't all nazis. Some of them were forced to join, other didn't care about Hitler's vision of the world and just wanted to protect their families.

Or didn't know about the villainy of Adolf.

I'd show them what I could do, then try enroll for a sniper based position.

Would hate to be a officer or general, such a boring position in your own country getting updates from the news at about the same pace as from your men

Frontline combat - I'm a pugilist. To be honest - no country is perfect, but still it is the place, society, people, culture you grow up in and wich defines your identity and roots. Your family and friends are part of that. I would defend that or die trying. But I would not invade another country or nation, so if am drafted to defend everything important to me,I would fight, if i am drafted to mess up other peoples shit for no obvious reason (a humanitarian catastrophy for example) then they will have to put me in jail.

Why would you get trained less for more arduous service? If you're asking if I'd go into front-line combat with inadequate preparation, the answer is probably no.

With our national bigwig of warfare never having served, I see little reason to do it myself. Besides, 'dying for a purpose'? I'd much rather run for a purpose.

It would be assumed that the required training can be given in the time stated, however in behind the frontline work you would be expected to know more things and be capable of fulfilling a wider variety of tasks.

Yup, that's right, you wanted to spend all of WWII in a Japanese internment camp where they felt you were subhuman because you surendered. Enjoy...

Overall its pathetic how selfish and short sighted some of the people in this thread have been. Sometimes war is necessary to protect those you love and the life you have. Sometimes its need to protect the innocent elsewhere because looking after others is the right thing to do. Sure, sometimes wars are started by stupid politicians for the wrong reasons, but the selfish jerks who say "what has my country done for me" just don't get it.
Well, lets see - the last few wars, MY country has be dragged into war by America for generally doggly reasons. And in WW1, the general level of leadership and equipment was bad, and its a tradition the British army has questionnably kept to this day. Want body armour? 1 per 2 soldiers. Guns that don't jam in a desert? Ha-ha, yeah, THATS going to happen.

Why should I give up my life for a bunch of crooks and political point scoring idiots, probably only out for money via oil and rebuilding contacts...? Especially given our politicians seem to believe they are above the law and above accountability (see the current expenses claim scandal).

Basically, our army treats its soldiers like shit, our politicans treat our army as exspendable, and the country in general is crap and falling to bits. Yeah, I think I'll pass on being forced to give up my life for it.

Add to that, I don't recall the OP saying it would be fighting the Japanese.
