I am currently in high school, and I was amazed at the amount of people who are still trick-or-treating. I stopped when I was 8, and these people are continuing at ages 14-15. It just seems juvenile to me. I even know a junior (16-17) who is trick-or-treating this weekend. This brings up the question, when should you stop?

I've only gone trick or treating once in my life, and I was 11 (first year in America) and I saw no appeal for it and didn't understand the big deal but i can understand how it can be exciting for little kids. If I wanted candy, then mom would get me my favorite candies on Halloween and I would enjoy the ones I like instead of shuffling through a bunch of cheap crap that people give out to find a decent one. Or better yet, instead of candy my mom and sister made a delicious chocolate cake for Halloween which is even better and we would then proceed to watch scary movies and answer the door for other trick or treaters (no long walks around neighborhoods involved). I don't think anyone should do it after middleschool.

A bunch of my friends and I are going trick-or-treating and we're all 15/16. I guess it's up to the person, some other people my age are just going to parties or staying home. I'm going because free candy is AWESOME!

Alongside 18 year olds...

Nothin' wrong with free sweets, people.

You're never too old to stop.

Personally, I stopped going when I was like 13. Haven't been since and don't plan on going this year. But if someone wants to, they can go ahead. I'm not going to refuse candy to anyone or something.

well last year (I was 18) my friend had to take his little brother and sister trick or treating so him and I dressed up (badly) as zombies using some markers and ripping up old clothes so that we got free candy as well.

If I have to do it again this year I'm going as a teenager full of angst (spiky hair, ripped jeans, band t-shirt, and fake piercings & tattoos).

Anyways, going trick or treating shouldn't have an age limit on it per-se but as you get older reasons for doing it change (like taking younger siblings & still getting free candy) and then going to parties afterwards.

I'm not really into trick or treating myself, since I don't live in the USA and it isn't exactly the done thing here. But, I think it shouldn't be done if nobody in the trick or treating party is under 15. That being said, I suggest everyone over 15 gets younger friends or children of their own (if you get that old) so that they don't look a bit silly when they trick or treat.

When you figure out that it's easier just to use the money you would have wasted on a costume to buy chocolate at a discount.

I'm in my 30's now, I own a house and take pride in scaring the pants off kids when they come to my house for candy. Over the last few years I have seen older and older kids going trick or treating. Why? FREE CANDY!

Put on a silly costume, run around your neighborhood with a pillow case (or two) and get free candy from all your neighbors. Heck, I know people who hit multiple neighborhoods to get the maximum candy fix.

I think if you are in the spirit and dress up, and just want to have good fun, why not? It's all in good fun for the most part. When you get the older kids who have fake (and sometimes not fake) weapons who show up at your door, I can sense why some might think older kids need to back off though...

When you decide that running around and getting free candy is beneath you, you need to take a long, hard look at yourself in the mirror and think about what you've become. Then punch yourself.
