I agree. I hate to think that the only reason people are really frothing over this movie is because of the amount of money that is being made off of it, instead of being realistic and looking at the simile and metaphor going on.

Maybe they should stop worrying over the fact that the ships look like they were taken from Halo, and instead think about why, for example, China has banned the film for reasons they are doing the exact same things to their people that happen in the film. >.<

I don't think it matters they copied the ships from halo. I mean, halo just ripped them off from the alien movies anyway.

James Cameron made the Alien movies, so saying that he copied the ships from Halo is bullshit, considering that about, what? 80 percent of Halo's art design is pretty much copy-pasted from Aliens?

Feminists thinking its sexist is really ridiculous even considering there's like a bajillion movies out there where women are treated like whores.

I don't think the smoking one is much controversy. There's so many movies and other forms of media in general where the characters smoke.

But really?! AVATAR DEPRESSION?! Shit, I'm depressed that fucking movie even exists!

It seems like everything that comes out now, no matter what it is or what it's about, will cause controversy. People have gotten so used to complaining about things that they don't like they feel they can do it about anything.
In the old days, people had to burn down several buildimngs before governments would take notice. Now, One person is a little offended by something and the government swarm all over it, you cannoy defend every tiny minority without pissing off the majority.

Where's the part about China removing the film from all theaters? The other choices seem outright stupid and pointless.

The most ridiculous controversy is the Teabaggers claiming it's left-wing Commie propaganda*.

(and it is a blatant ripoff of Dances with Wolves. To quote myself: "It's Dances with Wolves with Titanic's budget and Revenge of the Sith's special effects.")

Sorry if I sound like a douche but James Cameron only directed the second film, Aliens. The other films all had different directors and this has absolutely no bearing on the design of the ships in Aliens though.

The most ridiculous part for me is definitely the feminists angsting over another thing where females aren't big and buff. In general, only body building women are physically stronger than men. Basing humanoid aliens off of us humans, the very basis of the word humanoid, would seem to make a lot of sense.

[sub]Note that I said "in general". The really good women kick boxers would be stronger than a lot of men and even if they weren't stronger they could probably beat the shit out of the man anyways.[/sub]

Banned may be pushing it a bit =P. Considering that the movie will still be showing until at least March. (http://zhidao.baidu.com/question/134010556)
Now, the excuse that this is to help strengthen domestic movie releases... That's almost as bad as "HDR, only on the PS3." heh

James only made Aliens, and the art design came from this other guy whose name i cant remember, its on the making of the alien movies
OT: Id say the fact that this gay/lesbian/bisexual alliance boycotted the movie because there were no gay na'vi

well I've tried doing a little research, and I couldn't find any reference to the drop ship in Alien, so it looks like it first appeared in Aliens.
I know from my days being movie obsessed in the late 80's to mid 90's; Cameron has alot of creative input regarding the designs on his films.

Also the Ariel HK's from the Terminator remind me alot of the Pelicans from Halo (the manoeuvrable compared to the propellers on the wing). Cameron had a big input on the design of the Terminator.

So I've gone for the Halo option in the poll. I think it's fine for Budgie to be inspired by great sci-fi. I don't think it's cool for fanboys to then say the guy who inspired some part of their beloved franchise, ripped said franchise off.

[sub/] Alpha 1089: I ain't trying to be argumentative towards you, just quoting you so you know I read your point before I posted [/sub]

Ack. I've been quoted by a Brit, the least tolerable of all nationalities to us Aussies. Jokes aside, the one time I don't proofread a comment and I manage to retard it entirely. What I forgot to add was that even though the other films were directed by different people, I'm fairly certain that the dropship first appeared in Aliens. Hence the other 3 films having no bearing on the design of the dropship from Halo Aliens.

It does make sense. But people want stuff to complain about, so they find stuff to complain about.

So Cameron ripped off his own movie then... that's not just lame, that's extremely low.
"Why come up with new and fresh ideas when we can just reuse the old shit we made decades ago?"
"That's great! Why didn't I think of that?"
"Yes, like this we can make a movie based on old material and make tons of money!"
