Im personally for the humane treatment of animals however my money goes out to the Dogs Trust (whom ive adopted two beutiful rescued german shepherds in my life) and the RSPCA.

I feel horrified that PETA have the UK Dog's trust on their hate list when their motto and its one that they stick to is "Never put a healthy dog down" something which PETA could learn from.

The RSPCA is on there too which I personally dont understand since the RSPCA do almost all of the animal rescues in the UK and the peta do..... none?

I think Kefka said it best:

I don't actually HATE them... but they annoy me with their self-righteousness and their ridiculous extremism... I also don't think they are targeting the right people with their terrorism... They're not even good terrorists!
If you're gonna be a terrorist, at least do it right and hit the right targets...

My opinions on Peta can be summed up by Pen+Teller's bullshit:
[link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inFtOMx8nDU[/link]

TL;DR: "... sometimes the only kind option for some animals is to put them to sleep forever." -Ingrid Newkirk, founder of PETA. Despite protesting the LA county animal shelter for euthanizing animals.
In one year, PETA rescued 2103 animals, killed 1325. Yet when the LA county does it, it is murder and monstrous. Wtf.

I think they're a bunch of stuck up, stupid, ignorant, ego-tistical eco-terrorists who wouldn't know common sense if you smacked them with a nine iron. I'm all for animals being treated fairly, but I don't see anything wrong with eating them, keeping them as pets or using them as beasts of burden, so long as they are kept well and not mistreated.
First post hit the nail on the head.

P.E.T.A. = People eat tasty animals. Think about that for a few minutes, won'tcha?

I can certainly understand their viewpoint, I hate inflicting any kind of suffering. But yes I also love me a good hamberger or pork chop.

What I absolutely abhor is comparing slaughterhouses to nazi germany. Accusing animal testing of being torture chambers for sadists. I work in a laboratory where we are trying to cure or at least hinder anemia. We use mice to save lives in this manner. They are the same kind of mice use to feed to a pet snake.

I know PeTA is against pet snakes too (or pets of any kind), but my point stands. We are not cruel to the mice, we do not cut them up while they are alive. We kill them incredibly humanely with CO2 introduced into their cage. They Slowly fall asleep and stop breathing. There is no pain on their part, aside from a needle prick once or twice. We keep them fed and happy in roomy cages with plenty of other mice.

Feeder mice are typically kept in a tiny cage until needed. Then either tossed in live or bashed on the head to stun them.

Another point against PeTA I have is their extreme hypocrisy. As I said, I am all for treating animals nicely and humanely. But when the more extreme members of your organization firebomb laboratories that work on curing diseases in humans, sabotage and steal other animal related "cruelty" clinics or pet shops or cow farmers, I just feel they are grossly mixing up their priorities. When you would rather ruin people's livelihoods so an animal that honestly has no comprehension of things more advanced than eat/fuck/fight. Except most domesticated cows only comprehend eat/fuck/...

bunch of pretentious arseholes, eco 'terrorists' (i use that term as all they do is free mink that ravage other wild life, edgy), and general other assorted elitist pricks who want you to feel bad about being an omnivore/alive/a person/not them.

I say this being a vegetarian myself, and I hate them, and would quite like to punch many of the members in the face.

My one and only advice to PeTA is to just stop, give up, you make everything worse and all you do is ruin things, go away.

(ps. if this is repeated I do apologise, I have the world's worst computer as I can't control, wahey!)

The fact they kill any pets regardless of circumstances that are donated to them because of their belief that all household animals are wrong kind of makes me dislike them, but occasionally they do get the right idea.

I feel like most people that are a part of PETA are misguided individuals who don't know what they really stand for. The leader, on the other hand, is definitely negative.

They're ignorant. Completely. I know that they want to put an end to people owning pets. What will happen to those pets? They'll be put out on the street where they can get run over, starve, or whatever else.

I am wholly against animal abuse. Anyone who abuses any animal deserves to be tied up behind a truck and dragged to death (mostly because I've seen this done to dogs). But I think they're going about it in completely the wrong way - I mean, really, it takes some talent to take a cause that every person with a conscience believes in and turn them all against you.

my view on them is basically summed up in this joke "how many PETA members does it take to change a light bulb? none because PETA cant change anything." I understand the point they are trying to get across but by the way they do it its stupid.

Comparing chicken farming to concentration camps is not the kind of move that makes me say, "yeah, I want to rearrange my life to be more like yours." More like, "what steps can I take to prevent my suffering a similar mental illness?"

I don't believe I've ever taken PETA seriously. Then they rolled out that porn site and I officially wrote them off as completely nuts.

I used to regard them as a generally easily-ignored source of unintentionally hilarious ad campaigns and such. And by and large, that held true. It wasn't so much that I didn't like them so much that I simply didn't take them seriously.

And one thing changed that: they crashed my cousin's college graduation. They ran on stage, seized the microphone, and screamed that everyone attending was an accessory to murder and torture.

They are the WBC of Animal Rights groups, they give everyone who even tangentially agrees with them a bad name, and whatever good they do is offset by the massive amounts of harm.

I think "misguided" would best describe them. They're the perfect example of an organization that started out with good intentions, but they've become so wrapped up in their cause that they're lost touch with reality.

My first complaint about them is their style- it's very in your face and preachy. Which isn't a bad thing on its own, passionate and fiery opinions can be valuable, but in PETA's case they're frequently expressed with goofy publicity stunts and protests. It doesn't help that they frequently pick very trivial targets, such as the recent Battlefield 3 rat stabbing thing, which makes them seem as if they're just out to complain.

Basically, at best they're difficult to take seriously, at worse they're obnoxious.

What is your opinion of PeTA?

I think they want to good, but are misguided, and ignorant of the real problems surrounding animal cruelty.

what's your opinion.

EDIT: any advice or input on how they can improve.
Big difference between misguided and just plain stupid. Instead of doing anything useful to prevent animal cruelty they choose arbitrary battles to fight that just make people hate them more. Such as creating a lawsuit for whales kept in Sea World saying is the same as slavery in early America, or bitching about how you can stab rats in a video game and want the content changed.

How are either of those going to help animals actually suffering at the hands of people? They wont.

The last PETA person I knew did nothing but QQ to people they saw eating meat while eating a sandwhich made with vege products made to LOOK like real meat. Veggie burgers are one thing, its a patty. But this stuff was made to look exactly like bologna.

Theyre crybabies who havent dont anything of value.

There's this one great infographic lying around.
I figure there should be an option for "All of the above, except 'positive'"
