The TVTropes wiki is alright, although their tendency to name a good third of their pages after anime nobody watches is disturbing.

Thier community, however, is either an extremely elaborate troll scheme or the biggest piece of horse shit I've ever seen on the internet.

Also, their insistence on getting trolled by ED is hilarious.

...it's complicated.

I love it and I hate it.

I love it because it is just pure fun to trope away at your favorite series, games movies or whatever.

I hate it because so many precious hours of my life have been poured into that site, it always throws my planned schedules into Mordor.

I like it alright. It's neat to find out where certain "givens" come from.

The only thing I have against it is that they can't seem to explain anything without dropping links to about 400 other tropes in the process. It gets confusing if they're trying to explain one by saying it's like "this" and "that" if you're not familiar with "this" or "that", either. Because when you go to THOSE links, it's the same thing.. more links as explanations.
I feel this.

I'll swear up and down there's times I've been on that site, and following the links to find the meaning of links eventually dissolved into an endless recursive Hell of links referring back onto themselves.

I think that's part of the reason it's so easy to lose half a day there.

It's extremely educational and extremely time consuming. I try to steer clear of it on my days off, because once I get there I'm stuck ALL DAY LONG.
Agreed, it makes hours vanish! But it's one of the most interesting reads going!

I loves it!

Would have chosen the first option but I don't currently have any tabs or windows there open right now. At least, not today.

ED is still a thing? I thought they got shut down? (By their own admin no less. x) )

The encyclopedia part is informative and potentially intriguing. The forums are a cesspool of some of the most pathetic human beings on the planet.

I go there regularly, but I only recently learned about Fast Eddie. Dear god, the man's insane!

I love it, but at the same time I curse it for taking up so much of my time without me even realising it.

I love that place. It's in my favorites bar.
It's really easy to learn more about a medium through that website, something that yo noticed but never really elaborated on until you saw it on TVTropes.

I hate it for eating away at my life. The first time I went there, I lost a good six hours just exploring tabs and stuff. Now, I try and moderate my intake of TVTropes.

Meh, I don't get all the love of that site. It's just a compendium of tropes. It's nothing special.

It's called wikipedia syndrome.

I voted "meh", since all the obvious cliches it catalogs are the reason I have a low opinion of fiction.

Bloody useful in the sense most swords are bloody useful in a battle. Its just as typical its double sided :)

I am sure it has the power to stop human civilization for a few hours in everyone looked at it (assuming everyone can read).

I found out about it from the Escapist when someone posted the Hijacked by Ganon trope [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HijackedByGanon]. I ended up looking at Good good, good evil, neutral evil, insane evil etc etc and also the scale of apocylpse that ranges from a small earthquake to not only the obliteration of our universe but all the near infinite universes via the ending of Reality itself...

I love the Tvtropes wiki, but I fell out with some people and got banned and can't help but feel a twinge of lingering resentment at all the passive-aggressive bullshit that goes on there.

Great to browse, but sadly one of the worst communities with which to get involved.
