I don't mind paying a whole $3-4 a month, not when I get what you mention (multiplayer, updates, game features, etc.) plus party chat, Netflix, last.fm, the new ESPN channel, and bunches of other stuff. I'm no fanboy, but I think I get what I pay for.

And yes, it's all free on PC, I get it. But I likes my big TV and stereo. ;)
Oh look, my thoughts summed up rather nicely. $50 for a year is really inconsequential to me, and I really do think I get what I pay for.

I don't use it because I don't have internet where my Xbox is. So I have no opinion. I find it's cool to play with your friends and get updates and all that, I just wish it didn't cost so much. It's about $50 a month right? Seems a bit much to me.
No, it's $50 a year, not $50 a month (or $600 a year).

Everything seem like a bit of a rip-off if you multiply it's price by 12.

It's also worth noting that the Silver Membership is free, so all you need to do is connect your X-Box to the internet and you'll be able to receive updates, download demos and buy games etc.

Also when you first connect to X-Box live you get a free month of Gold Membership anyway, so it really is worth your while to try to connect your 360 to the internet somehow, even if it's with a long Ethernet cable.

Oh, really? I never looked into it, so I never really knew. I might do it in the future, but right now I'm a single player guy.

That's not that much, just save up your pocket change and you can play XBL.
I can easily afford it. No need to be presumptuous. I just don't see why I should pay for peer to peer, when PC offers a better online platform (dedicated servers) for free. PS3 does too.
Actually Dedicated servers aren't free and they are costly and constantly ask you for donations because someone has to pay bandwidth. PS3 does it for free since they don't give you as good as technical and online support (banning people, keeping it run smoothly).
People get banned on PSN and no Micro$oft that need money to keep the online experience smooth. Thats the excuse people give after they find they essentially paid for what other people get for free. Thats why I only play offline games on my Xbox and online gaming on the PS3.

I reckon it's bullshit personally. I don't wanna pay to use internet I've already paid for, regardless of the games the 360 may have, I don't reckon it's worth it, same as MMOs.

Why would you pay for internet twice on 360 when you could get it for free on PC and even PS3? It just doesn't make sense to me.
Because you aren't paying for the internet twice. There is alot of value in having a Gold membership once people get past all the stereotypes and the initial "OMG I am paying for the internet twice". First off is all the contests. Every week there is at least one to win anything from 1000 point card (for me value at about 15 bucks) to entire home theatre systems and new 360s (sometimes special, signed or dipped in gold). And all you have to do is enter is download a gamerpic (which are on average about 20KB) and some are pretty cool. I am rockin a Batman pic I got from entering a contest. Every week content goes on sale. If I had been patient I could have bought all the Dragon Age Origins (including Awakenings) DLC for half price. That would have saved me 30-40 bucks if I had taken advantage of it. Now you throw MP and party chat (and all the other bells and whistles) on top of that for 60 bucks a year (I am sorry but if you are buying by the month you are foolish) then how is that not a good deal?
Because on another system you can get the discounts, free games (different) every month, early access to betas, premium dynamic themes free, the ps *ahem system will turn itself on to update your games and itself, all the accounts on th system have access to these privleges and yes there is party chat (and you can include yourr non subscriber friends into it). For $50 I can get a lot more bang for my buck.

I love Xbox Live, it's so much fun with my dozens of friends and the multiplayer is a blast, especially Horde mode lately on Gears 2. I don't mind spending the few bucks for live, it's trivial to how much would be costing me for paying something like a single MMO, for free multiplayer for any game and updates with insider xbox movies and other fun things. Especially SentUaMessage is added lately is freaking funny.

I'm perfectly happy with my XBox Live experience, but then again it takes me 1 hour to earn the annual fee, so I can see where some people would probably have gripes about it. I thought I'd also try to shed some light on all of the BILE being spewed around on this thread:

1. The Jasper chipset 360 models, issued in November of 2008, have so far shown to have a failure rate of under 4%. This is why they do not come with the 3 year extended warranty.

2. Not every game on the PSN is running dedicated servers, though the majority of first party titles are.

And now that the facts are out of the way, it's time for some OPINION! Every community will have it's share of shitheads. LIVE has the biggest community, so naturally it will have more shitheads. However, LIVE's like / dislike, friend / mute system makes it so much easier to avoid / manage the community than PSN does.

Also, PSN HOME = SHIT. Enough said.

It's a quality service, if you ask me. It's cheap, for one. It's $50 a year, which breaks down to maybe $4 a month. Matchmaking over it gets no complaints from me, depending on the game itself. Most are reasonable. It's easy to get in touch with my friends, so that means I don't have to put up with the community which is the only real complaint I have.

Honestly, it's cheap enough that I really don't care that much about how innovating or exciting it may or may not be. It works, and I'm fine with that.

If I was given the option of having PSn on my Xbox for free or paying $50 a year for Xbox Live, I'd pay the $50. Live is well worth the money, because it's a better service than PSN. I can understand being upset that you have to pay money for something others get for free, but you get what you pay for.

Xbox Live Home = oh nevermind..

both are great I don't see how XBL is owrth the mone seeing as how it really isn't better than PSN. Sure you can mute people but don't give a shit about what people are saying online. (I listen to music while I play). And the XBLA titles aren't really that much compared to the ones on PSN.

I guess the service is all right but I don't see how they can get away with charging for multiplayer.

Did you spell Microsoft with a $ because everyone else is doing it or because it's hip and trendy (also you made a grammatical error but I'm not gonna rub it in, unless this counts :p).

Anyway what games do you have for PS3 and 360?

I pay $30 a year. That's nothing in the long run and I get a well maintained hub and the best multiplayer (i.e. with the most people, even though some are annoying as hell). I'm not complaining.
