PC. I don't have the money for console gaming.
What? If you take in the amount of paying monthly for Xbox live, then I might understand that, but that's really a first I've heard of PC gaming being more cost effective than console.
For me, it is. I payed about $400-500 (depending on the conversion rate) for my PC 4 years ago. It still runs everything (Skyrim on Mid settings looks as good as it does on the consoles). I could get it for half that today.
If I wanted to get into console gaming, I'd need a new TV, I'd need the console and I'd need games. That last part alone kills it for me. Why should I shell out $60-70 for a single game when I can get them for half that much on Steam sales. Heck, even without sales the same game tends to cost $5-10 less on the PC.
Add to THAT the fact that I'd need a PC anyway for work and that upgrading it every 5-6 years is something I'd do just for that, I can't really justify the extra cost of a console. Seriously, buying a new TV and a whole console is hundreds of dollars. For what? To play Gears of War 3? Also, my PC is a tax writeoff (business expense), so that lessens the financial blow in the years that I do buy a new one.
PC gaming gets a bad reputation when it comes to price thanks to high end PC gaming (which is quite expensive). But if you're only trying to match the current gen consoles (which is more than enough for 99.9999% of the games that come out) then it's not particularly expensive and likely cheaper when you factor in the money you save on games thanks to digital distribution sales and such.
And the final blow is that some of my favourite genres practically don't exist on the consoles (strategy games) and the consoles are waaaaaaaaay in the Needless Luxury Goods category for me.
EDIT: Also, respect for the Dresden Files avatar!
