So simply put, what's your primary platform?

You do realise that anyone who doesn't have a PC can't enter this poll, right? So someone who owns a PS3 and 360 but no PC cannot answer your poll as to which platforms people use? So of course PC is gonna be way up there in the lead.

*sigh*

EDIT - OT: Primarily I use a 360 for newer games, but I have a large retro collection on my older PCs.

Honestly with all the consoles I have I think I'm spread out too thinly to have a primary games console. My guess is that it is either my ps3 or my 360.

*looks at Avatar* ummmmm, GAMEBOY!! Well, it was once. While I do own all current gen consoles and play them fairly regularly, I find it hard to play a lot of games without a mouse. Been tempted to pick up a cheap copy of something like Mass Effect just to see what its like with a joypad.

Depends on the type of games I'm playing, but at the minute it's 360. When I go through my old games or (MMO)RPG phases it's PC though.

I have all three consoles, but the 360 is my primary one by far. PS3 is just for exclusives, and the Wii hasn't even been turned on in months.

I used to be X-box, but since I upgraded my pc its been mostly on that. I don't even have a 360 anymore. Just my PC and a PS3 that I mostly use for renting games I wanna play and some classic stuff. That thing will be getting a major workout when the Zone of the Enders HD remake hits though!

Maybe an other option? For people living in the ghetto who still only have previous generation consoles. If I didn't have my pc I would be playing my Snes and ps2 more than my 360

I'm still considering selling my 360 and all my games and getting a wii with twilight princess and skyward sword. Newest game I've gotten on my 360 was Arkham City then not one for a year or so. OR I could spend the money making my PC good and *cough* somehow play them on that *cough*

Xbox 360 guy right here.

I've been thinking a lot about the pros and cons as of late between each of them and considering how serious I am as a gamer, I think it's actually the best platform for me.

PC is a lot of work and generally requires constant attention, plus it seems like you need to be pretty knowledgeable on the basic ins and outs of a computer. The mods are a pretty big part of PC gaming, yet I've had Minecraft for the past year and a half and I still have no idea how to download a mod.

PS3 seems pretty good as of late what with the influx of exclusives that wouldn't be able to play on the 360, but the 360 has much more titles.

I've got a decent lab top that can run a fair amount of simple games, but I don't know... The 360 is simple and convenient. It's got enough to keep me at bay. It's really perfect for me.

What? If you take in the amount of paying monthly for Xbox live, then I might understand that, but that's really a first I've heard of PC gaming being more cost effective than console.

It used to be the Wii, but there's been a bit of a drought while our PS3 has been running almost non-stop being unable to keep up with all the amazing games that have come out in the past couple months. That and my Skyrim addiction. I still use the PC, but it's more there for the occasional TF2 and LoL than anything.

Surprising results, considering how "PC gaming is DEEEAAAD" and all that.

My choice? PC. Which is also my only gaming platform at the moment.

For me, it is. I payed about $400-500 (depending on the conversion rate) for my PC 4 years ago. It still runs everything (Skyrim on Mid settings looks as good as it does on the consoles). I could get it for half that today.

If I wanted to get into console gaming, I'd need a new TV, I'd need the console and I'd need games. That last part alone kills it for me. Why should I shell out $60-70 for a single game when I can get them for half that much on Steam sales. Heck, even without sales the same game tends to cost $5-10 less on the PC.

Add to THAT the fact that I'd need a PC anyway for work and that upgrading it every 5-6 years is something I'd do just for that, I can't really justify the extra cost of a console. Seriously, buying a new TV and a whole console is hundreds of dollars. For what? To play Gears of War 3? Also, my PC is a tax writeoff (business expense), so that lessens the financial blow in the years that I do buy a new one.

PC gaming gets a bad reputation when it comes to price thanks to high end PC gaming (which is quite expensive). But if you're only trying to match the current gen consoles (which is more than enough for 99.9999% of the games that come out) then it's not particularly expensive and likely cheaper when you factor in the money you save on games thanks to digital distribution sales and such.

And the final blow is that some of my favourite genres practically don't exist on the consoles (strategy games) and the consoles are waaaaaaaaay in the Needless Luxury Goods category for me.

EDIT: Also, respect for the Dresden Files avatar! :D

PC. Mostly because of console emulation, however.

With something like EmuControlCenter(the best emulator frontend I've used so far), loads of games from loads of systems are at your fingertips without having to pop anything in to the system.

Other than that, I spend the most time popping in games to my Super Famicom system. Japanese dictionary in hand.

PC. I used to do a bit of PS2 gaming, but it was impractical due to the fact I had to have it plugged into the TV so that anyone in the family could play if they wanted to, but no-one did and instead watched TV, rendering myself unable to play it. PC gaming continued in the solitude of my room. After that, I had the option of getting a Console recently, but after years of being on a good PC, and going over to friends houses and hating the Xbox and PS3s they had in almost every aspect, I went for upgrading my PC instead. PC gaming is where I started (Civ Net. Great first game for a 4 year old...), and its probably going to be where I end too.

That doesn't make a lot of sense as s/he is just asking what platform you play the most not which you own. Obviously, if you don't own it you can't play on it and thus will not be your primary platform.

Long term for gamers who buy a lot of games then yes it is cost effective it really depends on how many games you buy a year as to how cost effective it is especially when taking XBL into account in relation to the xbox only of course. On the short term costs consoles do out perform PCs.
