Sexual orientation? Is that the direction you point it in?
you're thinking of sexual orienteering where a group of you are in the forest with nothing but a map and your wang to follow.
Ah, fond memories...

The statistics that most people refer to aren't very good. The last one, which is on wikipedia, shows the statistics from the 1990s, from a small area in England. Twenty year old data, and low reliability >.>
No way near enough participants, or spread of area >.>
Also, another thing that may affect the number of people calling themselves Nonsexual/Asexual could be people in the Grey-A spectrum, but they don't know the term for the one they are, so just say they are Asexual/Nonsexual.
Well luckily I still have my pride......I'd never refer to anything on wikipedia ;)

Your second point is actually really close to what I was trying to expres.
(albeit, perhaps,in a rather convoluted manner)

I have allways perceived true asexuality to be very rare.
The population of the Escapist seems to contradict my experiences so I've been curious for a while, but as you said, there aren't really any meaningfull statistics on the subject.
(So I will have to make due, talking to people and comparing them to Escapists):p

You missed out the all important 'nonsexual' in favour of other things...
Well, Nonsexual/Asexual.
I think that 'non-sexual' may have been missed out because...it's not actually a sexuality (hence being non-sexual, it's kinda like how Atheism isn't a religion since it's typically classified as the absence of religion).

As for myself, I'm a hetrosexual male. Not very unusual but in all fairness, when we find people who claim to be Bi or Asexual because it makes them sound edgier (which does happen more than you'd think) then it does trip my cynicism alert and it's hard not to be slightly critical.

Hello thread. Haven't seen you in the past week. As with every time this comes up I am a bit puzzled by the number of bisexual answers in both sexes. As far as I know Bisexuality is quite a small minority in the general population.

Is it a sample bias where if you are gay or bisexual you are more likely to take the poll, is it because the sexuality of the website's user base is different from the norm, is it due to the way the question is asked, is it because of limited options, is it due to people choosing that option for some personal reason besides sexuality, or is it something else.

I've seen this thread so often and it generally comes out the same. Can someone please enlighten me? What is with the statistically significant bisexual population?

I WANT ANSWERS!

I put Female - Questioning. But asexual would be more appropriate. I can appreciate both male and female bodies. But don't find myself particuarly interested in anybody.

True enough, but it is kinda a sexual orientation. Kinda.
Can't just say we don't exist because we don't have any interest. We're still there, but we lack the sexual drive to be counted in.
Kinda like Blanks when compared to normal people, or psykers. They just aren't there.
Edit: Wait... did any of my post make sense? >.>

I'm a straight man
But I do have a funny story: I was at a club with some mates a few weeks ago and one mate came up to me and kissed me on the mouth. It was funny. Then another mate (a general drunken mess) came up to me and stuck his tongue in my mouth. Not funny. So my other mate and I went up to him and said "yeah, that's gay. Guys kissing is fine, but tongue makes it gay. Don't make it gay"
That same night my gay flatmates ex boyfriend went up to me and kissed me as well and I was surprisingly ok with it, mainly cos he's not a fairy kind of gay guy and he's a legend aaand my girlfriend was there and fine with it... I think

It would appear that the majority of females on Escapist, at least according to this poll, are bisexual. Being one myself that actually makes a bit of sense to me.

I never said that asexuality didn't exist, but that when speaking of sexuality that they aren't as 'important' as other more pronounced and established sexual orientations, by stating that you don't know or don't care (asexuality leans more towards the 'not caring' side) it makes it harder to express yourself or establish your opinion without sounding like your contradicting your main platform of not caring.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend once of if you were to approach an Agnostic (someone typified by being undecided or not interested in religion) and challange their beliefs, would they take the time to defend them? In theory, they shouldn't because, being Agnostic and thus uncaring of religious beliefs, it should be completely irrelevent to them.

I know, that's why I added the edit at the end of my post >.> I didn't even make sense to myself >.>
But if sexuality was on a line from Heterosexual to Homosexual, with everything else in-between, it wouldn't exist on there >.>
A sexuality that is set apart by the very absence of sexual interest >.>
Ach, I'm still not making sense to myself >.>
