I've kind of been meaning to get a good knife for a while. Guns are nice and I think I'll get one eventually, but just for general stuff I'm thinking a sword, and if I was to go hunting, and it wasn't entirely a survival situation, I'd brush up on my archery.

I don't carry weapons with me when I go out, but I do have a shotgun and a pistol at home that I can shoot fairly well.

if i would live in the city, and i dont. i would make myself a sort of stylish cane sword contraption. with a sort of tazer contraption in the bottom so i would have both a leathal and nonleathal option. also, unsheathing the thing in an arc would give you the distraction you need to act. ( e.g. sheeth flies off, zaps your attacker or at least makes him dodge/deflect it., giving you the time to move in )

Gun, if not available, knife. A sword is pretty much useless nowadays, unless you're in combat with other people who have swords.

Illegal here, but I do like switch blades, just the little flicky motion has always amazed me.

only guns I need are the ones stickin out of my shirt sleeves
:]

OT: I dont need weapons, my two feet are good at running when needed. I prefer not to fight. If I DO fight however it will be in such a way that my opponent will have no way to react. A hammer to the back of the head for instance.

I. Love. Guns. I'm saving up for my CCW next month. Dunno what my first gun is gonna be though. I have a bunch from when I was a kid but they're all at my parents house.

I don't carry anything and don't really see a need to. I hardly ever go out anyway. I have a box cutter for work but I hate carrying it around. I have no interest in owning or using weapons of any kind other than as display pieces. I'm from the U.S. too which is probably weird...an American without a boner for weapons, how absurd!

Swords are wildly impractical, require a great amount of training to be useful and are for nothing more than decoration.

Knives make more sense and are quiet, but require direct confrontation to be of use.

Guns make the most sense. They can be concealed and are effective at any range. One day I'd like to get a license for a .357 magnum. I don't really believe a gun is necessary for protection or anything like that, and I'd never dream of using it on a person (or even threatening them), but I'd like to have one to take to a range or a farm or somewhere and shoot stuff.

I picked other, only because I wasn't sure whether a chainsaw was a sword or a knife.

Anyway, i'm a bit on the fence with weapons, there good self defense things, but they can also kill anyone you want to, which leaves me with the opinion of uncertain.

I like swords. Sure, guns are better killers, but to truly master a sword, one must dedicated oneself to the blade and what wielding that blade entails. Any dumbass can pick up a gun and fire off a few rounds, but few know the intricacies of steel to steel combat. And I can respect that.
Believe me firing a gun is far more difficult than it looks especially at longer ranges.
If an M9 Beretta gets into the hand of an inexperienced user, there is a good chance that they could slice part of their thumb off.

OT: The closest thing to a weapon I carry is a pocketknife. I have no training on how to use one as a weapon, so If I got into a fight, I would probably pull it out to distract them, sweep their legs, and run.

My weapon of choice is all. I kid, a little. I'm a weapons collector(my collection sucks right now because I'm a poor college student, but I'm still a collector) and so I have a number of them. Rifles are a blast to shoot at a range, and anyone who hasn't, should. Also, pacifism is actually embracing death. by refusing to defend yourself, you are granting moral superiority to those who would murder you, and thereby turning your back on life, and embracing death.

A quote:
"If you are unwilling to defend your right to your own lives,
then you are merely like mice trying to argue with owls.
You think their ways are wrong.
They think you are dinner." from the book Naked Empire

Just out of curiosity, why would a sword be any less useful than a knife?
a knife is concealable and easier to wield (lightweight, faster strikes etc)

I'm just curious about what you think about weapons. Do you carry any to protect yourself, and if so why? Do you refuse to carry anything because of some moral or religious taboo?

I don't know. I was watching a knife show and wondered what your stance is/was. Its late and I'm bored.
I picked 'Knife' but I also wouldnt mind a good shotgun to back me up against some Zombies. The reason for Knife is because it is both a tool as it is a weapon, it can be thrown; used to cut; stab and take out a guard using the hilt. All while buttering yourself a sandwich.

Also *Bunp*
