I thought it was too realistic. The fun part of GTA has always been driving on the sidewalk mowing down as many people as possible. But it's hard to do when the cars have shitty traction.

I thought it was a really good game. My only quarrel was that they removed the army as the sixth star and just threw in more swat. If they did have the military, I would have enjoyed it a bit more, but as it is, it's a solid addition to the franchise.

i think it's age, the players (such as yourself) grow up. I went completely off the GTA games after GTA 3, i lost the will to sink that much time into a similar game all over again, i'd had my fun and moved on to other genres. I'm sure GTA 4 is fantastic to someone being introduced to the series for the first time, but times change and the things that appealed to me in GTA 3 (i.e getting in a Barracks OL and driving against the traffic knocking everything flying) just don't really appeal as much any more.

I thought after a while it all looked the same. The missions were too similar, too realistic, not enough customization, it lacked immersion, I'll sum up by saying everything Saint's Row 2 is that GTA 4 isn't.
Damn, ninja'd.

This. SR 2 had color, humor, and didn't take itself seriously. It took fun gameplay seriously.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. But hey, at least we got SR2 so it's not all bad.

San Andreas is probably one of my favorite games of all time and while I wasn't expecting the huge environment or nearly as much content as there was in that game (I imagine most of the work was done getting the whole thing to function), I was expecting as much as GTA3.

For the Poll I chose "Missing the Tank" but I think OP should've just made that "Missing...." because there was a whole lot missing from the game: Yes the tank, but also Rampage missions, R3 missions (and the in-game rewards for the couple they did include; I can't do anything with achievement-trophies), miniguns, flamethrowers, remote bombs, and a real attack chopper. Now I know they plan on adding a couple of those things with the new DLC (even then you can't with the pc and ps3) but I already have Saints Row 2 which had all that stuff without buying an extra $20 dlc pack.

I kind of liked the realistic look/feel of gta4, but I don't see why adding that meant they had to take out all the fun.

i found the missions awful i mean every single one was drive to get mission drive to next checkpoint in which ur most likely going to either
A)chase down and shoot a vehicle
B)get out of car and shoot a few people
or C) a combinatoin of B then A

and the shooting wasnt great i felt no fun or sense of achievment in that game

now go away and leave my opinion alone

Glad that didn't happen to me when I got old.

Nothing was wrong with it. It just lacked the 'spark' that would make me want to keep playing it.

I thought it was the best GTA game ever. Best storytelling, more gritty. I can see why some people might not have enjoyed that but I liked it a lot. I get the feeling that I might be just a bit older than most of the people in this thread because I don't think I've been into the random destruction since the first one. If they can put together a good AAA title with an interesting story and good gameplay I'll enjoy it and leave my preconceptions at the door.

P.S. I suppose you might argue that it is a little more realistic but this is GTA here, more realistic for a GTA game is like saying less whory than Paris Hilton.

I loved the game. Multiplay could use a cheat mode for free mode to make it more fun and easy to get guns and such, but otherwise I thought the game was great.

I think the main reason why I'm turned off GTA IV now is that I last played it right after an hour-long stint of Saint's Row II. It felt like my GTA car's max speed was about 35 mph. But GTA's as recent as San Andreas are alright, it's just that this one made me 1) Turn on my brightness all the way, 2) Drive crappy cars that don't speed up nearly enough and 3) Use an awful police system that, coupled with the slow car, made it impossible to escape one afternoon.

Be that as it may, I did have astounding fun during the 28-hour marathon my brother and I played of it when it first came out, and still shout 'YELLOW CAR!' in a drunken way to taxis.

To sum it up. I stopped having fun. It became life. An actual job. Something I couldn't enjoy. I could seriously do these things. I loved San Andreas because we went all over the place and meet so many crazy people and the story was nice. GTA IV i don't mind the story one bit. It's just not fun.

Nothing was 'wrong' with it per se. It was just massively overhyped and for some, the game has a few balance issues. Others didn't like Niko's annoying cousin that calls every. Five. Minutes.

I had a GTAIV save game with over 230 hours on it. The game was a lot of fun, amazingly detailed and had some great characters.

Wasn't the best game ever made, but I mean... 230 hours of gameplay for $50? That's $0.21 an hour of entertainment, I will take that happily.

As for the phone system, if I didnt want to deal with someone, i didn't answer the phone or would tell them "Not now." and they would leave me alone. The friendship decay was a hell of a lot more forgiving than peoples paranoia makes it out to be. Most NPC's I never bothered to hang out with after the initial unlocking of their special ability, and I dont think I had a single one of them ever become "Not friends"because of it.
