The most effective vehicle during a zombie apocalypse would surely be a form of amphibious vehicle, perhaps a tank? Think about it, zombies can't swim all too well, and also zombies can't break into a tank... perfect.

A sailboat! Fuel efficient and can travel over large distances. You can also live on it quite comfortable.

And as long as you keep to a somewhat inhabited coast, you can easily sneak ashore and resupply.
So, the pros whit a sailboat would be following;

* As stated, zombies cant swim. Thereby you don't need to be on your guard as long as the boat is far away enough for the zombies to be unable to walk to it.

* If you have a wind turbine you have a reliable source of power.

* As the food in the markets starts to go bad, you will need another food source. Since the zombies can eat each other, they will most likely survive longer then the food in the stores will last. How do you solve this problem then? Buy a fishing pole! Zombies don't fish, and most of the fishing industry is kinda... zombified.

Thats all the pros i can think of for now.

Nuclear submarine. 'Nuff said. With a large enough sub, I can load all the damn bicycles I want, and probably an M1 Abrams or two and a heli'. All you folks on bicycles hoping to avoid zombies by silence I ask you: can zombies smell? I can launch the dead out the torpedo tubes, but no amount of Febreze is gonna save your ass if the smell of flesh sends the rotting ones into a frenzy.

A hovercraft. They can raverse both water and solid ground. And they float if you run out of fuel in the middle of the ocean, in wich case you can still paddle.
That or a zeppelin, filled with helium since I wouldn't want it to go Hidenburg on me for no particular reason.

I would say an APC. They have full anti-infantry weapons, hold a large amount of people and supplies, can crash through shop fronts etc with no damage, and are amphibious. Only problem is getting hold of one would be difficult, and learning how to drive the thing would be even harder. Once you have found one fuel is not likely to be a problem.

A boat would be the best way to survive the Zombie Apocalypse, a house boat in particular. However if you have to move through a particular area than a helicopter would be the obvious answer, but fuel would be rare and the noise would attract a large group of zombies when you have to land unless you end up in an empty area, but then no fuel so your stuck.

If you have to take a Vehicle you'll want a strong car, probably a big 4WD or a Ute. You could hold things as well as take some people with you. You'd want it to be rather quiet yet sturdy and some slight modifications would be great. However, no amount of razor blade roof racks will help you if you are driving through a densely populated area. In a city you want to be moving on your own two feet or not moving at all as the noise and possibly smell from the car will attract zombies. Not to mention the problem of blocked roads. In rural areas you will need a car to get across that wide expanse of land.

Dirigible, or a Lead Zeppelin, a ha ha.

Don't think Zombies can climb mountains too. Not sure if there are Zombie sharks or Zombie birds

But zombies can swim in Plants vs Zombies

I'm going with the boat idea. But I'd pick an aircraft carrier. Pretty much a now brainer. It's a swimming fortress(see Rivet city in Fallout3) loads of room for supplies (including bikes of course) and fellow survivors and almost endless entertainment if you're into blasting zombies into bits with unmanned drones

im a little surprised nobody has yet mentioned Dead Reckoning. personally i think an amphibious APC would be ideal - armour, space or storage and company. keep a couple of bikes in the back for when you inevitably run out of fuel. if fuel isnt an issue then id go with a combine harvester, as someone suggested earlier. take out the safey measures and youve got yourself a handy dandy zombie mulcher. hell, any that survive being run over and pulled into the blades are subsequently launched out the back. keep it moving and keep an eye on your doors and your safe AND spreading a lovely offal fertilizer to encourage plant growth. good green fun.

A bicycle.
Why? Because most of this stuff runs of gas or some sort of other fuel source that will eventually run out. If a zombie apocalypse was to happen, I'd probably be one of the only ones left, save for maybe my boyfriend, but he'd be riding on a bike right beside me. I wouldn't need to have a vehicle that carried multiple people.

It's lightweight and doesn't run on anything. Hopefully by then I'll be in shape so that I can ride one. Then again, it would depend on what kind of zombies you're talking about (quick ones, normal very slow ones, special zombies, etcetera.) which would probably elicit another choice in a vehicle.

Besides, you're supposed to pack light in an apocalypse, not have bulky weapons that weigh so much that you waste more energy shooting the darn thing than running from the zombies themselves.
