Monster truck.

Parked cars blocking roads are no longer an obstacle and the truck itself is pretty high off the ground so zombies can't latch on while driving.

Put some spikes and stuff on it too, and we're good to go.

Please don't take offence this is just my personal opinion, but boat and helicopters are a bad idea, cant be bothered doing the rest of the vehicle types :p

First i will explain why the boat isn't a great idea.

Gasses build in a body if there is decomposition, making the body have buoyancy, in turn making floating zombies, also you have take into consideration the idea of not just you trying to flee a zombie apocalypse, others with similar mindsets would do the same, then is the problem of people turning while wearing life vests, more floating zombies, you also have to remember in most fiction zombies have a primitive ability to climb, anchors and other ways to get onto the deck make your boat not as safe as it should be.

THEN the major problem of survival, people are smart, maybe too smart, congregation on isolated areas such as low populated or non populated islands and lagoons will be a definite and also runs the risk of zombies, you also need a good amount of survival knowledge to know what is edible and what isn't, where you can camp out, what animals are near by etc, the last and most deadly thing about boats is if you know how to pilot one or not, remember vehicles aren't like in the movies you need to have some knowledge in boats to know how to drive one, and fuel consumption and replenishment is a problem, same could be said about helicopters.

Now for the helicopters, The make a lot of noise, they use a lot of fuel and you need a lot of training to pilot one, its easy saying "yeh I'll get a chopper and fly away land when i need to" you have to think about constant instrument observation, set a course, make sure you have the right amount of fuel, know every safe area from the zombies, know every small airstrip to refuel, then is the matter of most helipads and airstrips being in built-up areas, the middle of airports or even in the country, all 3 as deadly as the last.

Metropolis: Large concentrations of zombies, hardly any refuel points, more chance of being surrounded

Airports: Large congregation point, a lot of zed's or military, most likely get shot down or surrounded again.

Country side: best choice, but most of these small isolated airstrips are unprotected with fences, refuelling is normally easier but more dangerous.

There is a lot more types of landing zones I haven't mentioned and a lot more random things that could go wrong, personally I would rather take my chances on foot, when you think about the congestion on water and in the air when and if this hit its not worth hitting another boat of crashing into another air vehicle, i know most of this is only fiction, but i hope this helps :p peace :D

P.S. Dosent a Moped with a chainsaw on the end sound ideal? XD
I take it you've read WWZ, havent you?

You both obviously haven't seen the 2004 Dawn of the Dead. And A helicopter only needs to get from building to building.
Good luck finding a helicopter, learning how to fly it, finding fuel for it, and landing on buildings. that is hard.
This is what you need
Just put some extra armaments on it and even if you run out of fuel, it will take the zombies a while to get to ya.
Well, it would if there weren't stairs on it....

A submarine. Preferably nuclear, so you can kill as many zombies as humanly possible.
I highly doubt nuclear ratiation would kill soemthing thats already dead, they dont use there organs, the only exeption is the initial blast :/

Or a random guy standing at the base of it :/

Boat. Because zombies can't swim. And hell, if they can. It would be rather slow, if they're just shambling then how would they act with all that water resistance?

Helicopters and planes are the worst-VERY little armour in most cases, virtually no room for supplies, and they are fuel hungry beasts.
What do you need armour for? You don't have to defend yourself against .50 cal rounds, just teeth and claws. If anything, armour makes you heavy and slow, the only fortification to a car I could recommend is lamination for the windows (on both sides, just in case) and proper sealing for the doors so they can't pry them open. But I wouldn't recommend a car anyway, you don't want to be stuck in a tin can when zombies swarm you.
Cars with laminated windows hardly protect against corpses bouncing and thousands of punches/heads smashing against them.

Your idea of bicycles is great for quick movements-But lets face it, one puncture or unexpected zombie tackle and it's useless. It's also a lot of energy used that could be used staying alive.

An APC doesn't have the senseless amount of armour of a tank, nor the drawbacks of excessive fuel use or lack of decent speed. It's tough enough to survive a horde, large and empty enough to keep your supplies in (probably the largest drawback of a bike), has good mobility for when you need to get around, and can get through any annoying barricades or shop walls.

Plus, you mentioned .50 cal/weaponry - Other survivors may want what I have. Seeing you go past on a bike at a few miles per hour is like a moving target that acts as a decoy or supply package.

APCs also double as a safehouse. Rather than having to scavenge around for safety, or worrying about my hideout being overrun or stolen by another survivor, I can just sit back in my APC.

For shame, comrade. Has nobody else been educated in zombie survival? The answer you seek is the mountain bike. Zombies will not be able to catch you, fuel is not required, and you can easily maneuver through obstacles. The way is clear-go forth, and ride, brother.

I said Boat, despite the fact that I know nothing about sailing. The truth is that you can live on a boat, and you can anchor it offshore with your supplies where the zombies couldn't get you. You can also then sail it around the coastline and get off to head out and loot when you need to.

Looking at say Spiner909's comments you could for example put your mountain bike ON the boat and use it when you get off. But even so if it was an either/or thing I'd rather be on a boat with someone that knew what they were doing and risk the occasional foray on foot, especially seeing as we could like use binoculars or whatever to check out the areas we were going to scavenge in beforehand.

I'm surprised that Helicopter was tied with boat before I voted, simply because I figure that not only would you need fuel, but you'd also need to have a safe place to land the thing, and it's not generally the kind of vehicle you can just get out of to loot.

I suppose people might have figured a military chopper that could manuver between buildings and blow Zombies away in massive numbers, and that's a good thing, but is dependant on being able to support the chopper. It's more like what you'd use to try and reclaim civilization from Zombies rather than to simply survive. If your going to get into military hardware there are plenty of boats that could do similar things within their range. I mean heck, if we're going to get massively out of context just imagine what you could do to Zombies massed in a city with a missle cruiser. :p

Then again, it depends on what kind of zombies were talking about here.

Slow and shambling Shawn of the dead style or furious and sprinting 28 days later style?

Are they true victims of Solanum? Cookie for reference!
