yes, but if the Earth stopped spinning, it's magnetic field would be virtually non existant which would fuck-up gravityDeathsHands said:Err, I might point out that gravity comes from Earth's magnetic field, not it's rotation.dragonslayer32 said:EDIT - does it also mean that the world stops spinning? It's the reverse; spinning works against gravity, it doesn't make a magnetic field.dragonslayer32 said:yes, but if the Earth stopped spinning, it's magnetic field would be virtually non existant which would fuck-up gravityDeathsHands said:Err, I might point out that gravity comes from Earth's magnetic field, not it's rotation.dragonslayer32 said:EDIT - does it also mean that the world stops spinning? trust me, if the earth suddenly stopped spinning, everything not secured down would fly off. I think I have been slightly misleading here. You are right, but what I meant was that if the Earth suddenly stopped, everything would shoot off. Although, this would have an effect on the magnetic field which would in turn effect gravity. Besides, if time stops, the magnetic field, light, air and gravity would surely stop too.DeathsHands said:It's the reverse; spinning works against gravity, it doesn't make a magnetic field.dragonslayer32 said:yes, but if the Earth stopped spinning, it's magnetic field would be virtually non existant which would fuck-up gravityDeathsHands said:Err, I might point out that gravity comes from Earth's magnetic field, not it's rotation.dragonslayer32 said:EDIT - does it also mean that the world stops spinning? (Although it should be noted that the rotation's negative effect on gravity is relatively minor.)
Ah, you're making it far too complex. I'd just move with almost the speed of light thus avoiding time friction and problems with Mister Heisenberg while still having the comfort of a relative conception of time.TimeLord said:People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect. But actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball or wibbly wobbly, timey wimey.... stuff.
The thing about pausing time is that once time resumes everything you interact with instantly catches up with you.
In theory, you should be either existing in your own past or future. In practice, you co-exists with your past or future. The combined reality is a less than the sum of its parts. The first indication of a time track jump is a loss of present. Literally, some present has passed by, which the victims will not be aware of.
Some objects, apparently from random, will appear to be from the future once time has stopped.
For example, if you pause time and touch a glass then it not be able to be interacted with (i.e. you can touch the glass but can't leave fingerprints on it).
When time resumes, everything that the time travellers interacted with will suddenly happen. The glass which had no fingerprints after a touch will seemingly suddenly change, the fingerprints appearing. Worse still, although your positions remain the same, the future which was before your eyes has gone to be replaced with the "present". There is an element of fate here, as nothing has changed. Yours other self may still be observing the situation. If before you saw yourself die, this may happen now.
However, as you have foreknowledge, this can actually be avoided.
