Madworld is the most violent game I have ever played. Although I have avoided the Manhunt games as they look too disturbing to me.

Seriously though the executions at :40 is sooo messed up.

Condemned is another violent game, in some ways it is more messed up as the violence is more grounded in reality (usually)

I've heard that the Manhut series is pretty damn violent, but I have never played them, so I can't really provide any insight on that matter.

(Very, very graphic! The graphics are a little dated but still ...)

Some games totally benefit from gore - look at Gears of War. That game had nothing to it's name but graphics and gameplay, but then the designers thought "let's add another g... GORE."

And that game's so satisfying because of it. It's a combination of the way the guns and cover mechanics handle, and also how you can seriously mess dudes up.

It appeals to a childish part of me that went "awww niice" the first time I chainsawed a guy in half and saw his rib cage poke out of what remained of his pale-skinned chest.

Sure, gore isn't needed in most games, but it arguably sets a tone in some that can make them more satisfying to play. God of War is another good example, and so is Ninja Gaiden 2. The Sigma port to the Ps3 took nearly all of the gore away, and it just isn't as much fun anymore because you don't feel like Ryu Hayabusa is as much of a badass.

So, to sum up, violence and gore isn't necessary - but I do enjoy it when it's done right and it fits the game well.

And also, my nomation is Gears of War 2.

Can't really think of anything other than Manhunt.

Madworld might have been if it wasn't for the artistic style.

All the violence has warped my fragile little mind, though when I was younger my friends and I rented Hitman 2, and that game was a bit too much for me. (The second level at the meat packing plant, bleh)

Manhunt, probably. Because it took the killing so seriously. Postal took violence with the maturity of a 12yo child, so it wasn't that shocking. "no Russian" - it was kinda unsettling at first, just the ammount of people cut down, but it quickly turned out to be just another of those tasteless "shocking" moments MW2 was stuffed with, which stopped being shocking right about when MW1 ended.

I've never played Manhunt, but from what I understood: it's a pretty nasty game.

Although I did find the Modern Warfare 2 bit with the airport gruesome, it wasn't extremely shocking.

Probably RE4 in my opinion.

Having my fucking head sawn off or getting my face melted from acid is pretty graphic.

The Punisher - the game from 2004 (I think) It had torture and you get more points from killing people.

you could shove a Dagger through a guys mouth.

Rip out fingernails.

It was good.
Dont forget the cutting people in half with buzz-saws and torturing people with nailguns...

I would agree that The Punisher is one of the most violent games out there(Certainly one of the most violent Ive ever played)
And one of my favourite games out there.

Its becoming more realistic and contraversal as gaming graphics get better...
...My choice would personaly be FEAR 2 just because the developers took the time to render the enemy models with full blown organs and skeletons after blowing half their back off....
Theres a differnce between violence and gore, Doom 3 was similar to what you described with FEAR 2(never played Fear 2 so i wouldnt know) but Doom 3 was not very violent, just gorey(and of course scary).
Excessive blood and guts doesnt make something violent, violence does.

For me it will always be Manhunt (1) in terms of the weapons and different death animations.

Postal. Definitely postal. No doubt, most disturbing violence. However, I could also go on a technicality, and say that Alien Shooter: Vengence is TECHNICALLY more violent, in regards to sheer body count.

The GTA games are really just about causing a lot of carnage in creative ways, or at least that's how I play them. I also think left 4 dead 2 is pretty violent, but not so violent that it should be refused classification. I'm glad I don't live in Australia.

I love how a few people have been saying that the Airport mission in MW2 was really violent. It wasn't. The bloodlevels were tame and at NO POINT did you have to shoot someone to whom gunshots were not an occupational hazard.

I'd have to say Manhunt because it was violent but gritty and maintained a sense of realism which made it seem more violent. Eg Gears of War and it's sequel have a ridiculous amount of blood which made it seem too over the top to be taken seriously and I feel that that's what Epic wanted, but Manhunt tried to aim for the whole gritty, realistic, gory yet not OTT feel.

I think it really depends on the suition and morals and game type like your Fear 2 example was good but their are other games that are also violent in other senses :/

Definately the original Manhunt. What other game has someone trying to hold their guts in after having their belly sliced open with a chainsaw?
