Easy, the escort missions. When it comes to stealth missions, I'M in control of my actions and usually it's up to my skill to get through it. With escort missions, I am relying on retarded AI to not aggro every damn thing out there and get them safely to the drop off point.

Escort is bad depending on the AI and pathing.

Stealth is ok but I don't enjoy stealth except in thief, elder scrolls, WoW, or Splinter Cell. I am playing survival horror games atm such as Penumbra and Call of Cthulhu and they both have stealth elements. Penumbra's stealth is pretty good, while CoC:DCotE is pretty bad and borderline broken.

Overall I think it depends on the quality of the game itself rather than the actual stealth vs escort, its all in the implementation of it. I'd have to go with Escort because idiot AI not listening and dying has caused me way more grief than stealth.

I mean look at Half Life, Alex is totally hot and looks at you with her hot eyes walking backwards flirting with you while rescuing a fat walrus man in WoW where he runs into a million undead is lame.

Escort Missions. I love stealth so I can hardly complain when it makes an appearance in a game that isn't stealth based. But having some useless civilian running around with you and getting killed every five steps really annoys me.

Agreed, horrible forced stealth sections are far worse than escort missions.

They're both bad, but if the game just says 'Sorry, game over, start from the beginning' whenever someone smells your fart, it's just doomed to suck. At least in Escort missions you can use your OWN tactic.

Its a hard choice, if its games like FPSs, then escort missions, i can deal with stealth.

but i cant get the monkey off my back about the stealth mission in Wind Waker... For the love of all that is holy i hated that part!

Escort missions, easily.

Both of them suck obviously, but escort missions feel beyond your control sometimes because you always have to babysit the most retarded AI companion ever who will fall to pieces in an instant. Losing due to something that isn't your fault sucks.

Forced stealth, certainly.

Escorts, I can do, I can do them fine, but forced stealth is just horrible. Timesplitters 2, Neotokyo is an example. That level is torture.

What I like is games like Metro 2033. They have sections that would be best completed by stealth, but it is possible to run and gun it. Choices, my boy, choices.

The thing is, that level could have been awesome, but the stealth ruined it.

Anyway, it depends on the escprt mission. Insta-fail stealth make me rage with the power of a thousand sons, but escorts can occasionally be okay. I mean, at least the gameplay can still be fun.

Good escort: Jak 2 had some tolerable ones.
Bad escort: Destroy all humans 2, that level ruined the saucer for me, and I would have loved the fucking thing!

Good forced stealth: Huh, is that tumbleweed rolling by?
Bad forced stealth: James Bond games, NOLF, and this one Harry Potter game I had when I was wee, HOLY FUCKING SHIT, PERCY! How the hell do you hear me!

The forced stealth mission kept me from playing Wind Waker as a kid, and that, I can never forgive.

Escort missions are fine, as long as they aren't too long and the AI are up to snuff. I haven't yet played a game where I feel stealth is stuffed down my throat, but so far I've had fun sneaking around.

Escort missions. The AI you're protecting tends to turn stupid and charge at the enemy. In my opinion, the only people that do escort missions right is From Software (Armored Core, Chromehounds, Metal Wolf Chaos) and that's because you can make your mecha charge the enemy and by the time the thing you're escorting rolls by, there will be nothing left.

I don't mind forced stealth missions, as long as stealth is the selling point in the games (Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid are great examples). So far, the worst stealth mission I've ever played was in Rainbow Six: Letdown.

I hate escort missions, especially when the A.I is about as smart as a loaf of bread.
But I love stealth missions, especially the "All Ghillied Up" mission in CoD4. [SUB]That's a stealth-mission, right?[/SUB]

Escort Missions.

Anybody remember guiding that kid out of the Hobbe Cave on Fable? He had no sense of danger and his idea of fleeing was headbutting the hobbes.

Escort missions! I hate them, they serve no purpose, waste time and most of the time, have nothing to do with the story line. Plus there's the fact that they can NEVER keep up.

I'll go with the majority and say Escort missions. While some forced stealth portions of games are annoying, you're still not reliant upon AI programming for success.
