Well that's me. I can't stand rap and hip hop. The messages are always the same and I can't understand them. That's all there is to them.

It's a divisive topic; Chuck D yes, Flava Flave no.

No interest in rappers rapping about themselves to inflate their egos (apart from Still D.R.E due to the brilliantly simple tune), however being in the U.K we tend to only see that side of the American scene. You hear a far wider scope of British artists who might rap about pulling girls, but they do it with a sense of humour (apart from N-Dubz.)

Personal preference, but I still hate it. For three years of band class I had to sit in front of the drums which only knew how to play triple forte. That not only ruined my hearing, but also any music musical significance they might of had.

Something you can just listen to and hear something more then "cars, bitches, hoes, shit" mainstream is dead to me, of the options, none of em I like.

this is real rap/hip hop at its finest, an older cat from someone who understands that music is about a lot of things often time LIFE.

I don't care for most rap or hip hop, but if its your thing that's cool. Just please stop blaring it at 120 decibels down the road as you drive; it does not make you cooler you whitebread poser. For me it's heavy metal or classic, it's an odd combo but seems to work for me.

Wow.. /applaud

Basically said everything I intended to, just more eloquently.

Only thing I can add is that is based in anti melodic and extremely repetitive musical theory. From a musical standpoint it is basically reducing the music down to the lowest common denominator.
This :D

Here it goes. Personally, I like rap. I enjoy the beat, I enjoy the rhythm and flow of the lyrics. The only problem is the rap you hear the most on the radio is terrible. Most rappers who claim to be gangsters are nothing but a bunch of fakes. It's all a fantasy. Their songs do nothing but glamorize it. I personally prefer rap that stands up for something or has a legitimate point to make. I've found that for the majority of the time (for me at least), if you're looking for good rap music, the mainstream is not the place to look.

Most of the rap I listen to isn't very mainstream at all. Some of my personal favorites being Immortal Technique, Rhyme Asylum and Diabolic. I also find myself listening to more laid back rap is well. Nujabes (Rest in peace), Shing02 and Substantial are some good examples.

After writing this, I realize that alot of the artists I like I first heard because they've collaborated on many occasions. Oh well. Examples anyone?

This.

They are just wasting oxygen, in the long run. And all the rap stars going on about "ta hoe's!" or "harems of bitches!" doesn't exactly help ending sexism in our societies, either.

It's too bad that people judge the genre based on what they hear on the radio. They say it's garbage, but never take the time to delve deeper and find the artists who truly have skill.

Personally, I love rap. I enjoy it just as much as I enjoy any other genre. Many of my favorite songs are rap.

Examples of my favorites:

I love hip hop. It's fantastic. Although, I despise mainstream hip hop. Lil Wayne is shithouse.

I listen to a lot of Australian hip hop - it's the best out there.

One of the biggest generalisations I've heard in a while. Truth is, the vast majority of hip hop across the world doesn't do any of that. The rest of your post was sheer opinion so I can't fault you for that, but I'm telling you that sentence is 100% rubbish. The fact that a few idiots who claim to be "hip hop artists" have made it big in the USA and do those things you mentioned isn't a fault of the whole genre.

Anything with 'gangsta' in front of it is trash.

But, I do dig the older stuff.

You can dislike hip-hop, that's fine. But it's just pure ignorance to not consider it music.

Sure 99% of hip-hop is shit, but you can say that about any genre.

It's no more misogynistic or racist than most classic rock anyway.

Big fan of classic hip-hop, a bit of modern rap like Mos Def. Don't listen to it much, though.

Music is just like candy...The first thing you do is remove the w/rappers.
I also have an acronym on this subject as well, but it'd be in very poor taste.

I like a few rappers, but i can't stand that bump & grind crap.

Paul Wall, Eminem & Lil' Jon are ok. I can not stand Lil' Wayne though, every thing about him irritates me to no end.

The little bit i like about it is the beat & the bass, gotta love the thump. But i can't even pretend to like the culture. To much of the smae crap over & over again.

I'm currently listening to Rip Slyme and loving it, so yeah, I like fun poppy style hip hop but not heavy rap.

That just gets annoying. But many people say the same about this:
