Everyone at my school thinks i'm the biggest stoner in the world. I have long hair, a scraggly beard, and wear the same sweatshirt all year, but I have never smoked.

Okay, so most of us will no doubt fit in with some other subculture rather than simply nerds and geeks. There has always been a stereotype that people who frequent internet forums and play most games or play WoW or mod computers or whatever are nerdy, geeky, and socially inept. During my time at the Escapist, and in the real world (obviously), I've learned that this isn't true. So what I wanted to know was simply this: What kind of subcultures make up the Escapist Community? Please excuse the poll, I simply think that it's an easier way of showing the exact proportions of each subculture here on the forums. I chose the most common ones, along wih an 'other' option for those few who don't fit these chosen categories. And to actually promote discussion, since I don't like list threads anymore than all of you, I pose a question - why is it that you are a member of that subculture, and what do you think of other subcultures that may or may not be similar?

I'll start you off. I'm personally a bit of a mixture between geek and indie. I like webcomics and computers, and gaming, and I intend to study an elective in computer programming. But I'm into indie and rock music and wear indie clothes, I have a distinct indie style about me. I prefer indie to dance music (unlike all but perhaps one of my housemates), and I'm attracted to indie (and goth, surprisingly) girls. I don't really have a problem with other subcultures, except chavs, but don't like the same stuff as them.

So what about you guys? If anyone feels like sharing, please post, we want to know about your stereotypes here :D
I guess I'm kinda socially inept, not in the sense that I lack friends but I don't really handle certain situations with people so well, I also enjoy alot of video games and take some interest in comic books and the such so I guess I would fit into the category of Geek. However I don't think its so easy to fit a person into a single category, I've a friend who is extremely smart and studies in order to do the best for his education, however he's also very capable socially and is very fit, if I had to categories him I would put him as a Nerd due to his humor (not like "lol science blah", but computer/internet references and the like) and perspective, but really he focuses to do well in every aspect of his life so would it be right to do so?

I'd say I'm a geek, but I chose "Other" because it's a bit different. While I do enjoy gaming, technology and tabletop RPGs like any other geek, my true passion lies in medieval recreationism, archery, Renaissance dances, and similar things.
Don't view this negatively, but doesn't that make you more of a geek?

I've been told I'm a semi-bogon (pronounced boe-gon for all you non-Aussies). I'm into Commodores (as well as all other Holden cars), pub-rock, national pride and whiskey & coke, but on the other hand I'm racially tolerant and well-educated.

Well, I would want to say that I'm a nerd/geek, but I seem to be labeled as emo for some particular reason; I'm usually one of the happiest in my circle of friends (so nuts to the stereotypists!)

Geez, I started playing video games because I didn't fit in anywhere.

My friends in high school all wore jeans and t-shirts, didn't do particularly well or poorly in school, weren't very popular. One loved animals and hated kids, one loved kids and animals and was a musician, another was enormous and "goth", one was bitsy and curvy, she did the best in school of all of us, one was a total slut, and I was the quiet one, the aspiring writer.

What does that make us?

I'd stereotype myself as a mom, but I'm not an average mom. At least none of my daughter's friends think so.

Edit: forgot to mention something. Pretty much everything in that poll is nothing but fashion.

the funny guy but makes too many jokes that are just creepy to folks that no one ever actually wants to get to know him except those who are a little similar,
nerdy but actually never "turns down" hanging out but is just rarely invited
which one would that be?

Never fit into anything...

Broody chick who sits in class and draws? I dunno I didn't go out of my way for highschool. It was just that thing I did every day, and now that's gone those shallow stereotypes don't exist anymore. And yet everyone in my class seemed to assume I possessed infinite wisdom because I didn't say much... I mean seriously, people I didn't EVER talk with would ask me questions about relationships and life...

...I seem to give off this air of 'old', It really bites. Because when I crack a joke, people are too dumbfounded to speak and it fell flat. Ahhh well. Thank god awkward years are over, people I talk with now seem to actually respond to my dry sense of humor.
you just made my day, thank you that kind of describes my, except I'm not a female, and there is still shallow steryotypes right now

White and Nerdy.

To the point where I might as well sing the song everyday.
*snaps fingers* DANGIT! The good quips are always taken.

Guess I'll have to go with White and Nerdy 2: Electric Boogaloo.

I guess I'm indie. I have friends in every group. I'm in high school right now which makes that very helpful for me so there is always someone to back me up if I get in a fight.
