I haven't completely lost my faith in humanity, but public school made me get pretty close. I couldn't go a day without hearing some idiot use gay as an adjective for anything. Or generally just the sociopaths I would have to contend with in PE.

I'm with this guy! Ironically, "losing faith in humanity" is like a ripple effect. When "people" are the reason, they ***** and moan and complain, causing other people to either agree, or disagree to the point where THEY too lose faith in humanity and being so upset that someone else has already lost faith.Ultrajoe said:Around about the time when people got together and told stories about losing their faith in humanity.
At the risk of sounding patronizing, grow up.
I'm a citizen of Zimbabwe, but live in South Africa nowActual said:Pardon my ignorance of the world any more than five paces from my front door, but what country are you from Double-O? I'm British and the biological warfare part intrigued me, I thought you were talking about the US until you mentioned currency.Double-O said:When i realised that the leaders of the government of my country consider themselves to be real christians who are looking after the interests of the people, even though inflation is officially around 300 000% (though independent estimates put it at over 1 million %), there are no longer any more functioning hospitals (leading to a massive and uncontrollable cholera outbreak), the collapse of the currency (so we now use US$), the education system, and most of the civil service. All the while these leaders, who have a high level of education, continue to blame the problems on a cobspiracy by the West, including a recent statement by one minister that the cholera was as a result of "biological warfare used by Britain."
Edit: On topic; I guess my answer of 'Media' is due to reality TV shows, particularly the ones that put couples in situations that encourage them to cheat on one another, though I hate all the rest too. Occasionally there are rays of light in the world that make me realise we can't just kill all humans, but it would be far more efficient than isolating and culling the ones who need it.
You could, or you could go out and try to make the world a better place. As it is, its human nature to want things slightly better and these days its accepted that most people give up on life at some point, as if thats ok.Gormourn said:Uhh,most sci-fi writers expected us to be in space by late 90's if not sooner. So you missed there. And have most diseases cured and such, but then again, it's just sci-fi. Oh, and did i mention actually "smart" robots with real working AI?blackcherry said:Ok, so life can get bad at times, but really, how can you lose faith in humanity? Not to blow my own horn but by golly we are amazing!
In the last 20 years alone we have made advances that at the time even sci-fi writers wouldn't touch for them being too unbelievable.
Americans have just voted in a man for the reason that he makes them feel hope and an aspiration to be better and because he has told them they are all lazy buggers who need to pull their socks up and get on with it. They agree!
Just the other day a key activist in anti gay legislation proposition 8, a right wing governor, was moved to tears when he described how he had come to realise that it was unjust, and in his view he could not morally justify such a (in his words) 'unlawful and morally bankrupt move'.
I always find that whenever I get too down something is there to cheer me up, whether its people, a show, or just something in life. Perhaps its your age, but as I've gotten older I think life has shown me that things for us in our part of the world aren't bad. Not enough to lose hope in people anyway.
Go talk to people, go volunteer, go get laid. All will make you see things aren't as bad as you make them out to be.
Yeah, it's hard to give up on humanity as a whole, but if you look at it closely, you can see horrible things done by horrible people and others just accepting them as something that should always be like that. I really don't see a way to fix everything, unless you pretty much nuke everyone.
I look at USA and I see retarded brainwashed self righteousness and some scary form of patriotism, religion trying to overthrow science and reduce us to nothing.
I look at middle east, and i see the same.
I look at the "civilized world" as a whole, and I see many flaws, most of them existing because of people. Valuable scientific experiments are not happening because of stupid ancient and useless religious morals and terrorists like PETA. People are still using basic old methods of making electricity and don't even try to change and use safer things. Etc, etc, you could write a whole novel on that and you'll still have enough shit left.
