I really want to say never under any circumstances is it okay, but I suppose if someone was in a situation where hunting was an important source of food, then it would not have a problem with that. This does not mean, however, that its okay to hunt as long as you eat what you kill, it means if you survive a plane crash and you have no other option, then hunting is acceptable.

Ive never had a problem with hunting.
Its the way the world worked since animals first walked its surface. ((or swam its oceans))

The circle of friggan life. Animals hunt animals. And humans are technically an animal.

So rationally, theres nothing wrong with it.

There goes my faith in a few users on this forum; there are some real a**holes here...

I have no issue with hunting as long as it's done for food, survival or self defense and not just for enjoyment. The only time I'd take an issue with hunting for food is when it's done inhumanely.

It's not like animals are reluctant to kill other species, so why should we be?
Don't try to turn this on me by saying something like: "We are the more evolved species, we should not lower ourselves to their level."
That's grade A elitism right there.
Totally agree with your beliefs ;). We are animals too, and we will do whatever we can to hunt them..... well... for food at least. Animals don't kill other Animals for the 'fun of it' or 'sport.'

I believe you should be allowed to hunt politicans and civil servants. Also homeless people and disney characters but I guess everyone agrees with that :)

Actually some of them do.
Id say hunting is okey if its for food or protecting yourself/pets.

I'd have to say always, as long as it's done in moderation. SOMETHING has to control populations.

I can only condone hunting for food or genuine pest control (no, foxes are not a genuine pest, leave them alone). Doing it for sport just seems like senseless murder.

That said, if there's any fox-hunting posho types out there who feel like going after that bloody Foxy Bingo mascot, I'll happily turn a blind eye just this once.

We've been hunting as a human race longer than we've been an established society. It predates recorded history, any modern religion, and every nation on the planet, including the ones that are a stretch like Israel (in the sense that it's the same nation that controlled Jerusalem before it was conquered by the Muslims) and China.

I'd say it's fine to hunt for any reason.

I don't see the appeal of hunting at all. I don't get what satisfaction a person would get from killing something but having said that I'm not about to start protesting to have hunting banned or something.

As long as it isn't an endangered species and people don't go overboard it's ok but only problem is it's not something that can be enforced really.

Hunting isn't the most popular pastime in this day and age but I think a lot of people still do it. Some people seem to condone hunting for food while others don't condone it in any case. So what do you think? When (if ever) do you consider hunting acceptable?

EDIT: Just to clarify I only placed the option to choose hunting only for sport in the name of fairplay. I'm honestly not expecting many people to vote for hunting only for sport.
What about a option like "Only if the animal attacks first?"
Like if your just walking around in the woods with a permit for a stag and a rifle when suddenly a cougar comes out of nowhere and you shoot it. You know? like under certain circumstances.
That;s not hunting. If you mean killing animals you don't have tags for, that's a different issue, poaching, not hunting. but killing an animal that attacks you isn't hunting.
No i mean if its against your survival.
Either it or you.

hunting is not only ethical its ecological. since we as humans have thined out other preditors we must take their place and hunt the animals so they dont starve to death.
so essentially what you're saying is "we've killed the other animals so much, the only solution is to keep killing them, only for fun aswell as food"? we kill HERBIVORES in hunting, as we do in our day to day lives in farms, only in farming we breed animals solely to kill them so it's a pretty stable system. going into the woods and going on a kill frenzy won't have ANY kind of positive outcome
ok ether your

A. Trolling in which case i sugest you stop before you actualy start beleaveing yourself.
or
B. A misinformed fool who doesnt do his reseach and as such doesnt know why hunting is alowed or why there are limits on it.

In short dont assume you know ANYTHING about hunting if you think its the same as farming. Now do i think hunting for sport is bad? yes if your not gonna use the dam animal dont hunt it, now were i live sport hunters usualy sell the meat. i also happen to beleave in fair play while hunting such as giveing an animal a chance.

Edit: BTW if you talking about predetors such as big cats or bears if too many of those are around we have problems with them coming into towns killing people and then starting off a public resentment towrds predetors which would distroy them. Oh and another thing most hunters are some of the greatest conservationists in history. Need an example? Look up Theodore Roosevelt.

Where I'm from originally has a big farming community, so it was pretty strange around the village when the fox hunting ban came in.

Foxes were "vermin", that killed livestock (more than just to eat as well) and were a general nuisance. Hunting them was part of controlling the population, as it is with a lot of other animals in different parts of the world.

As long as its done responsibly and in a humane way (ie. leaving no injured animal to suffer etc), there shouldn't be a problem.

here's a thought, how about giving it a chance by NOT KILLING IT??
