What should I be able to kill in a game: everything
What I won't kill in a game: dogs and cats.

I never like killing dogs and cats in games. I love cats and dogs are just too innocent. They don't know any better.

I never go on random rampages. A buddy once handed me his controller in GTA 3. I was instantly bored. I just don't have the gene for the unbridled slaughter of innocents.

I will happily eviscerate anything and anyone that:
1) is attacking me
2) has to die for the plot
3) drops that thing I need or is between it and me

Doesn't matter if it's a cute bunny rabbit, it's going down.

I'll try not to kill innocents and friendlies, but within the bounds of my character.
In Saints Row 2 I prefer not to kill the people I carjack or members of my own gang, but when the rockets start flying I do what I have to and if the little people don't want to get killed they'd best stay out of my way.
No kids as a matter of general principle, but some of those brats in Little Lamplight seriously needed to die.

In a game, it depends. If the NPC is hindering my progress, I will kill them, but I don't kill for the sport of it in games because I never see random murder as the point of the game and nor is it really all that entertaining unless it's really silly and cartoony. I do admit that I always felt a bit sick in God of War when I had to kill certain NPCs like that one poor sod who refuses to let you cross the bridge because he's scared shitless for his own life.

In a game? Depends on if there is a karma system or not and what alignment I'm choosing. Now if they gave me decisions like Fable 3, only instead of wrecking a lake, I have to decide whether or not to kill an innocent child to stop the shoggoth, then it would be a serious moral choice.

My logic only goes as far to tell me to not kill things I care about, everything else is fair game. Good thing I like care about a lot of things.

Everything is fair game except companion animals. For example, Dogmeat. Would never kill Dogmeat. Also never kill horses, EVER, for example, RDR. Never killed a horse, at least on purpose. That's pretty much it.

It's a video game. I have no problem killing anyone or anything in the game because it's not real. Nobody is actually getting hurt, so why worry about it? Sure, put a bullet in that dog's head. Throw a sticky bomb on that kid and watch him go boom. They're all just a bunch of polygons in a game, not real creatures.

Is it a bad thing if I thought we were talking IRL here and answered with "Can't Kill Innocents"? But in video games, I'd go with what seems like everyone is answering, "Can't Kill Anything That Will Give Me Negative Karma" call me a nerd, but I always play Lawful Good.

I see all as being in one of three categories: allies, who I help as much as possible; neutrals, who I try to keep out of the way; and enemies, who I destroy with extreme prejudice. Doesn't matter who or what the enemy is, they will die once I've declared them such.

So, no innocents.

As a general rule, I won't shoot anyone who isn't a direct foe, unless shot at first. Then, you may have just bought your own tickets to hell

However, if you set off my "Evildar" or "Detect Evil", then kiss your life goodbye! Lawful Good doesn't mean Lawful Nice
But what about the loot!

Generally I play a pretty decent human being. Well, as decent as a gun-toting homicidal maniac can be when discussing most shooters. Every once in awhile someone just comes off the wrong way and ends up getting shot for basically nothing, but it happens less if the game gives me a wider choice of diplomatic options.

Kill them all or kill no one that I can avoid killing, depends on whether there is a Karma system to the game or not, if not, it's open season on everybody, if there is then I'm good the first time around then I'll slaughter everybody the second playthrough.

The Rangers from Metro 2033 said it the best "If It's Hostile, You Kill It."
Usually ingames I have no problems killing people or animals that are attacking me, because I say it's self defence. But with the innocent people that have done nothing to me... that is a harder thing.
