Which one? I'm not including spin-offs. Sorry, there aren't enough spaces for any more.

Final Fantasy IX is my favorite. Everyone's so crazy about part VII so I thought, I'd give it a go. For me it was vastly inferior to the ninth part and I still to this day do not get why people liked it so much.

Other than 10, the Final Fantasy games all have pretty incoherent stories that tend to blow themselves out of proportion somewhere after the halfway point, and except for Chrono Trigger I never found the turn-based system to be very engaging. However, I adore the settings of these games, and Final Fantasy VII had by far my favorite of them.

Aye, that one was my favorite in terms of gameplay and characterization.

VII. Great story worthy of it's own book. Everything else was pretty much FF standard, except for the fun extras, like Gold Saucer. But the story, characters, and extras made the game the best I've ever played.

Yeah the stories do tend to get deep and "defeat the villain or the universe explodes"-like but I've never seen that as a bad thing.

FFIX has always been my favourite. I like VII, but definitely not as much.

I'd have to go with VII on this one. It's just given me the best experience out of them all.

I loved VII for it's unique style and characters (at the time especuially) it really opened the doors to RPGs for me. Prior I had only played Phantasy Star IV and Shining Force 2, while both were amazing games, I couldn't find an RPG out of them that I liked. I figured maybe it was a fluke but FFVII was just a great game, though I'm not about to go defending those rabid fans of the game, while I do love the game it's jut my opinion.

Tactics is a close tie with FFVII, I love that game and still own the same copy (as I do with FFVII) that I bought way back when. I beat FFT more than probably the rest of the FF series. Though I haven't liked a game after Tactics they seemed to just go down hill for me. I quit after FFX and a bit into XII.

Honorable mention: FFVI

VII hands down. The story, the characters and the sheer emotions the setting brings up makes this my favorite, though IX and VII come close as well.

I never said it was--I rather enjoy that aspect of the series. They manage to somehow take that same archetype and put a different spin on it with each setting, exploring different themes through each world and its characters. It's just that sometimes they just get carried away with them a bit and it feels like they're trying a little too hard to elicit a "WTF" moment or come up with a plot twist for the sake of having one. Personally I like it better when they're a bit more direct.
