well when murder definitly has worse resolds (against the person it was comited on)
i find rape far more sick because you force sex something that is suposed to be the ultimate expresion for love and they do it against theyr will with someone they dont love and sometimes doesnt even know!
whyle in murder they wont suffer any of the humilliation the trauma or other unwanted resolts of rape BUT they will be dead...

I think we need to draw a distinction between murder and killing. Killing can be justified, if it's in self-defence or similar. Murder has nothing to do with self-defence, and cannot be justified. That's why it's called Murder, not just killing. If it's in self-defence, it's manslaughter. Murder is never justifiable. I wish more people understood this.

That being said, I think murder is worse. It is possible to recover from being raped. So far we only have one (alleged) recovery from murder, and that was about 2000 years ago.

To me there are variables to both events that could make one worse than the other, such as length of crime (e.g. short death or slow, painful death), reasons for action, and the effect it has on the victim and the community. On the whole, neither are very good in the first place.

Objectively I'd consider them the same thing.

Both are instances of a wilful intention to harm another person.

Reasoning may vary but I'm just a black and white sort of person. That shit isn't right.

I rather be killed than be raped. No one deserves to be raped. Logically speaking it is one of the most horrifying and emotionally brutalizing acts that could be committed on a human.

I know someone who was raped by 3 men at the same time (back rear oral) kept it a secret due to threats of murder, ended up getting pregnant, was drugged by the family and dragged to an abortion clinic upon the family finding out. On top of all that, the 3 people were 1 boy her age, his step-father, and his step-fathers friend.

****ed up.

Just thinking about this makes me want to puke.

I know a soldier from the war of vietnam. His name is nick, he was dishonorably discharged because of murder. He was ordered to enter a village and kill everyone but these were no the people that got him dishonorably discharged, it was because he killed his liutenant when he wanted to rape a young girl. You tell me which is worse

While I've never been victim to either crime, I have witnessed both. I've also met some of the most vile, despicable scum you could imagine.

In my opinion rape is the greater of the two evils. As many have pointed out, murder can be justified under certain circumstances. There are people out there who are to powerful and too dangerous to be left unmurdered, even in prison. I've met them. I have no compunction about murdering such people. I've never met or heard of anyone who is too dangerous to be left unraped. Some might argue that murdering murderers is wrong. I would argue that if a man strangles a 10 year old girl on a whim, that he has forfeit his life.

As far as my rankings of crimes go, my top three are:
1. Torture. (Nothing that Hollywood can make or that you can imagine comes even close to the toll it takes on the psyche. Unfortunately the ticking bomb scenario does sometimes justify it.)

2. Rape. (While I believe that rape is never justified, when I compare it to torture it just comes off as very, very, slightly less evil than torture.)

3. Murder. (Can be justified, often quite easily. Murdering murderers, self-defense, etc. There are often clear and tangible motives behind murders, even petty ones like money.)

To be honest I'm not entirely sure that rape and torture shouldn't be tied for first place; as one post pointed out, rape can be considered torture. But then, many torture victims are killed after the necessary information is obtained, whereas most rape victims are left alive, so it's debatable.

Murder.

Rape may well scar for life, but it need not do. There's no such hope with murder, the damage is always final, and precludes all happiness from other sources that could still be had as a rape victim.

One can however think of scenario's where taking lives is justifiable - self-defence for instance; the same cannot be done with rape. Which is of course part of the reason why it isn't featured in most games, as there simply is no way to justify it - and certainly even less of a way to glorify it - the same way violence can be.
