Can't decide...

Day 1 DLC is an utter rip off and anyone who buys it is a sucker, fact. All content released for the game on launch day should be included in the price of the game.

Subscription fees. If it's for server maintenance then fair enough, however Xbox Live has no servers, it's all peer to peer, so there's no reason at all why Xbox Live should cost anything.

Digital distribution can be a convenient system, however there's always the debate as to whether customers actually own the product or not.

Cutting dedicated servers, well we saw how shit Modern Warfare 2 was because of this. Bugs and glitches and hackers all over the place, and they couldn't even get the peer to peer system right. Host selection is at random, which is absolutely retarded.

Forced updates, well on one hand they can be good, as they can get rid of bugs/glitches, and get rid of exploits hackers can use, on the other hand, it also gives developers the option to release unfinished products, and update them later, which I find unacceptable. Look at games before online gaming, sure there might have been 1 or 2 small glitches, but they were still finished.

DRM, goes back to what I said on digital distribution.

Expansion packs. What's wrong with those? That's what DLC should be!

Most games which make you pay for the game as well as the subscription give you a month free

WoW for example, the game is £9.99 and its a £9 a month subscription, you get a month free with a sub. Not a problem :D

Forced matchmaking/cutting dedicated servers. Gods I can hate that system. Dawn of War 2 keeps throwing me into games with extremely high level player, resulting in me getting my ass kicked over and over again.

Not to mention that it's a hell of a lot slower, less efficient, eliminates custom content support and is a lot harder to protect against hackers and glitch abusers. For the PC, it's just a horrible, horrible system. Shamus Young wrote a nice article [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/experienced-points/6768-Its-the-End-of-the-War-as-We-Know-It] about it on why dropping dedicated servers for the PC sucks so so much.

All the other options in the game might be annoying, but in the end don't affect the actual gameplay that much. Dropping dedicated servers does affect your gameplay, in some cases in a pretty bad and profound way.

Subscriptions. I simply refuse to pay once for a game just to own it, then pay again to play it online (I'm looking at you, Xbox Live). Why pay AU$80 a year to play online with my 360 when my PC does it for free (and better)? That shit adds up y'know. Just 5 years (the average lifespan of a console, or at least it used to be, now it's probably a bit longer) at AU$80 becomes AU$400. Fuck that.
Because Microsoft takes care of all the servers on the 360. And that's not the case for the PC. Where do you think all the adds come from on so many dedicated servers on say CSS? Yeah, because server upkeep costs money, for Microsoft as well. And that also counts for those 'free' PC servers of, someone is paying for their upkeep, it's just not you.

Why do you think my clan is asking for donations? Because the upkeep of all our servers costs about £230,- a month, that's about AUD$400,- for you, that's what you pay each year to use every server for every game you play on the 360, and we pay that each month for only a couple of game servers for a couple of games. Nothing is free.

Subscription Fees: Xbox Live and MMORPGS I can understand, but preety much after that they are sucking their own balls.

Regenerating Health: this is actually useful for a lot of games, but its used to DAMN often!

DLC: I don't mind this, its just that I hate day 1 DLC. The game should have been out for at least a few months before DLC is released. other wise its a rip off because they didn't just put it on the disk in the first place.

Tough choice between subscription fees and DRM/having to be online for SP. Going with subscription fees because they greatly mar my enjoyment of a game. I can understand the reasoning with online stuff like they have to maintain the servers or whatnot, but I still can't settle with it.
DRM/having to be online for SP lost out slightly because I haven't actually experienced it myself. My steam copy of Mass Effect promised I had to be online to play but I disconnected the internet and it still launched and ran, so I dunno what's happening there but I'm not up in arms yet.

What? It's not enough that we payed money for your game, when we could have pirated it if we so wished, and now you have the nerve to say that we only get 5 installs, which in fact makes it a $50 rental?
Assholes. I'ma lookin' at you EA.

Day 1 DLC. To me it seems too shady. Game companies could of made the DLC content part of the initial cost. Plus, I am always left wondering how many man hours were spent working on the DLC that could of been spent on polish, QA, debugging, enhancing the base game.

I see DRM as an expression of how game developers hate every single one of us and laugh at us for being stupid enough to buy their games.

I don't know if it's a trend, but one thing I do hate that you haven't listed is lazy port jobs. Some games played on PC are just too obvious that they are made for a console. Not sure if the same is true in reverse, but I'm sure it would be annoying.

It was a close one between the removal of dedis, and having to be online for SP. I went with the removal of dedis.

. . . You guys realize that your subscriptions fees put back out constant updates, new content, and other stuff? Your not just paying the extra for no reason. Well people will be cheap as fuck and demand more service, i suppose.

However I find no excuse for day 1 DLC.
So after you have bent over and let WoW violate your ass, do you turn around and ask for seconds?

There is absolutely no reason for buying a game, 2 or 3 expansion packs and then pay for monthly subscriptions as well. Don't call people cheap for simply knowing better than to waste money on this piece of garbage.
Its funny cause you small person. Please don't ACT like your the bigger man then a business. You'd do the exact same thing. Have you even played WoW? If a bug comes out it's fixed in a week or 2, not months. So nice try.

last time I bought WoW's expansion pack, not only did it cost the same amount as two months, but it came with a 2 month free card. So Basically all I paid for was another 2 months.

I cannot condemn business for what I would do myself

I've never liked Quick-Time Events. They're not as widespread as they used to be (at least that I've noticed), but they still manage to creep in when I'm least expecting them, and I detest the game's developers for it.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Show me a cutscene, or let me play the game, but don't try to do both. It's ridiculous.
im gonna have to disagree with you there
i have no problem wit QT events if they are made a major part of gameplay or happen all the time
they are only annoying if they only happen like 3 times in completely un-related cutscenes

also i hate subscription fees
just why?
