I'm not sure I can be classed as either... maybe because I've spent the last two years not thinking about the future in the slightest, so I have had neither positive nor negative feelings regarding it.

Now that I am thinking about my future, I suppose it is with a kind of tenuous optimism.

If you go in thinking everything's going to fail there are two possible outcomes:
1) It fails, you are right. You get to bask in the knowledge you were right all along.
2) It goes right, pleasant surprise, you lose nothing.

There's less disappointment if you only expect the worst.

I'll admit that Yahtzee got me into thinking that way (and you too probably, considering your avatar), but it's really the best way to go. Although occasionally I get my hopes up so far that I just can't bring myself to believe it will go wrong.
Plus everybody will hate you for always telling them things will go tits up.

I am strange, I am a sunny optimist when it comes to others but when it comes to personal matters I tend to be more pessimistic. Maybe realist but that isn't an option.
