Pessimist, I look at things the way they are, and it doesn't look good. So I guess I fall under the pessimistic category

An optimistic realist. Try to think times will be good (even though I know they won't be) and try to make good of something that's bad.

Usually, I don't expect anything. I don't think "This will be good" or "This will suck." I just go in and think "could go either way."

BUT, I do have optimism reserved for certain things that have proven that they don't suck and are usually great.

Eh, call me a realist I guess.

Prefer 'realist' because it doesn't matter whether the glass is half-empty or half-full--you're going to have to refill it or wash it eventually.

Pessimisim is just honesty given a bad press.
No, pessimism is the cowardly way out of emotional involvement in anything.

As you can probably tell, I'm an optimist, character flaw/strength it may be...

Did anyone else notice the OP spelled pessimist incorrectly?

Does that make me a pessimist?

I put pessimist, but now that I think about it I'm really kind of both. I'm always thinking that bad things will happen/are happening, but through my strength and intelligence I will persevere and come out on top.

Neither. I'm a realist. Which is entirely different to a pessimist, or a cynic, or an optimist. Honestly, the poll is missing 3 or 4 options. People can't be shoe-horned into an either / or situation in this regard.

I prefer fuzzy logic.

The glass isn't half-empty.
Or half-full...

It's in a fuzzy state that encompasses both simultaneously.

The one that is nothing. ;p

Neither. I generally take every random variable to have an equal chance of assuming a positive or negative value... But then again, since I always make backup plans in case everything goes haywire, I guess I veer towards pessimism.
This. Definitely. :p

Although, on the scale I lean closer to optimism, granted I am a pretty mellow person.

Definitely a Pessamist, I expect everything to suck and it usually turns out to be. However I try to look at the positives even though there are hardly any.

Neither?

I guess I'm a realist. I don't lean one way to negative or positive things. It is how it is and that's how it will be. I don't look at the unlikely.

Sometimes that makes me seem like a pessimist but I'm not.

Edit: In related news, most of you sound like you have terrible lives.

Looks like most of The Escapist is pessimistic. Add another vote for pessimism for me.
