Surprisingly, I had this attitude towards life long before Yahtzee, he just reinforced my belief XDSocken said:This. The Maddest March Hare said:If you go in thinking everything's going to fail there are two possible outcomes:
1) It fails, you are right. You get to bask in the knowledge you were right all along.
2) It goes right, pleasant surprise, you lose nothing.
There's less disappointment if you only expect the worst.
I'll admit that Yahtzee got me into thinking that way (and you too probably, considering your avatar), but it's really the best way to go. Although occasionally I get my hopes up so far that I just can't bring myself to believe it will go wrong.
Plus everybody will hate you for always telling them things will go tits up.
We're talking in absolutes, so if you see yourself this way then no, the statement doesn't apply, but if you were a fuly paid up pessimist it would greatly diminish your emotional investment in things. The reality is that many people are like you, tending towards one but having elements of the other in their personality.Borrowed Time said:Erm, I'd have to disagree there. Even though I'd consider myself more of a realist then a pessimist, I have quite a few optimistic tendencies and am incredibly passionate. I have many opinions (as anyone who'se read any of my tl;dr posts has figured out by now) and wear my emotions on my sleeve. Does being a pessimist/realist deminish that? I don't feel like it does. *shrug*Dahemo said:No, pessimism is the cowardly way out of emotional involvement in anything.annoyinglizardvoice said:Pessimisim is just honesty given a bad press.
As you can probably tell, I'm an optimist, character flaw/strength it may be...
pessimist. i did go insane.DrDeath3191 said:I'm an Optimist. Because otherwise, I'd probably go insane.
