The great thing about being a pessimist is your either always pleasantly surprised or right.

Pessimism is pretty good. We are all fucked. We are all going to die cold and alone and nobody will care.

Optimist here.
Pessimists are boring: "Whine whine whine, won't happen, it's crap, told you so."
It's better to see the good side of things!

If you go in thinking everything's going to fail there are two possible outcomes:
1) It fails, you are right. You get to bask in the knowledge you were right all along.
2) It goes right, pleasant surprise, you lose nothing.

There's less disappointment if you only expect the worst.
Ah, something like Pascal's Wager then. Good point.

Anyways, I'd say optimist. I'm usually pretty happy with how things are going.

An optimist. Just ask my close friends, I never shut about about sunshine an rainbows.
But lately life has started to deteriorate, so I'm looking quite pessimistic.

More often than not, I'm a pessimist - one of my philosophies in life is: optimism is the quickest & easiest way to disappointment. Having said that, there are occasions where I am optimistic - I can't think of any at the moment, but they do happen, just not a lot.

I think a general rule should be expect the worst but hope for the best - that way you can't be upset when whatever it is is bad, because you were prepared for it, but at the same time you can be pleased if whatever it is is good, because well... it turned out to be good.

I always think like Spike, "Whatever happens, happens" and this is picked up somewhere, "Everything happens for a reason"

I more or less say I'm indifferent... in the way that.. lifes gonna do what lifes gonna do, we just have to role with it...though in a way I may lean alittle more optimistic at times, but really more of a middle path.

Really? Needlessly cheery people bore the hell out of me.

I've been pessimistic, cynical, jaded and misanthropic since I was 4 years old.

I'm really both. I love to look at the brighter side of life but I'm more down to earth because I know I have to face the realities of life.

I'm naturally more pessimistic about myself and my own future, yet I always try to make others be optimistic. It's hypocritical, I know, but that's just me.
