Inquisition. I've only read a few novels and I've never played the tabletop game, but they seem interesting. If anyone has any recommendations on novels focusing on inquisitors (especially Ordo Hereticus) that'd be great :)

Since I can't pick Tau or Necron well...
Ether Adeptus Astartes or Inquisition.
In the first case I'd pick "Knights of Blood" or "Raptors".
...or Alpha Legion -the ones still loyal to the emperor- XP
In the second case the obvious "Grey Knights" or "Deathwatch".

But only if I HAVE TO choose terran. ;-)

I choose defecting to the Tau.

I can live with being a second class citizen if it means I stand a good chance of surviving more than fifty years without getting caught in a Chaos raid, a Hive Fleet, a WAAAUUUGGGHHH!, an Inquisition investigation or worst of all, Imperial recruitment.
If you bow down to the Etherals like the Tau, you can live as an equal, says so in the codex.
(Someday when I have the time and funds, I'm going to make a tau army consiting entierly from defected Imperial Guard with Tau weaponry.)

I would so want to serve in the fire caste in Shadowsun's army, probably in a Stealth suit, or as a Pathfinder.
actually, there are never any human children born in the tau empire, and this may just be a rumour, but i've heard nothing against it, but the male humans are apparently made incapable of reproducing, i'll leave how to your imagination, as i'd rather not go into it

remember: everything in WH40k has a grim aspect to it, no army or race is entirely good. the wolves of fenris (home of the space wolves), for example, weren't origonally wolves, i've heard that they were once human who performed experiments on themselves in an effort to better adapt to the climate, every imperial army has either servitors or commissars, and the emperor himself is only kept alive by 100 psyker sacrifices per DAY. the eldar are dying and their gods are dead, i don't really need to go on, do i?

I would like to be Commissar Ciaphas Cain Hero of the Imperum. He is such a magnifican bastard.
I saw a book about him in a store yesterday. would you recommend it?
Absolutely yes. They're hilarious.
But would they make a good introduction to the Warhammer 40k universe? I've only played The Dawn of War games.
The Horus Heresy is also a great book series. Though I only read two, I'm looking foward to getting the others.
I think I saw them as well, they were much cheaper than the ones about Cain, but that was a collection.

Inquisition, because I could basically call all of the other parts of the Imperium into my service.

Oh, and Grey Knight Terminators. Enough said.

Well no, but bear in mind that these rumors didn't exist back when the Tau first was introduced. Unfortunaly (for the Tau anyway) there was a great outcry from the 'hams that felt like the Tau were the designated good guys, and so GW ended up introducing som ambiguously bad traits to the Tau. Still while "join us and get sterilized or die" is worse than "join us and aspire to live as an equal or die" it's still a helluva lot better than Imperial Modus Operandi; "Die from bolters or die from lasguns or.. etc".
And well in the end of the day players are encouraged to make up thier own backstory for their army, which is why Games Workshop make sure to keep these things as ambiguous as possible.
And I choose to belive that a lot of the negative stuff about the Tau are standard imperial propaganda.

And my backstory for my Tau army says that my sept is one of understanding that genuinly gives everyone a chance to serve the Greater Good, and rewards anyone who passes the oppertunity to live as an equal. Of course the Imperial propaganda and the limitless Eldar arrogance makes that very rare indeed. This may also be an attempt to justify painting my Tau as Space Commies, but hey a red and yellow colour scheme with details of white and dark orange looks great on Tau.
I just wish I was able to come up with a name for my sept, I'm getting envious of my friends "Craftworld Cowardice".

Edit: Oh that turned out a bit lenghtier than I thought. I better go stroke my neckbeard. <.<

how did many people thinks that the only people in 40k that definitely counts as humans is Imperial Guard(minus psykers, abhumans, and Techpriests), Adepta Sororitas(minus servitors), and any Mundane Imperials(anyone else that isn't Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanius, and mutants)?

...Gotta admit I thought you were talking about the Imperium in the Dragon Age universe at first. I'm not really a Warhammer fan...

Hello everyone, I am back again with another WH40K THREAD! YAY!

Anyways, I was wondering after which race and which chaos faction would you choose, I now decide to see which part of the Imperium would you choose. Also when you pick, please tell which soldier class you would choose and/or the chapter(Or regiment).

Their are

Adeptus Astartes (Space Marine)

Imperial Guard

Imperial Navy

Adepta Sororitas (Sister of Battle)

Adeptus Mechanicus (Tech Priest of Mars)

Inquisition

For me, I think I would choose the Adeptus Mechanicus. I do not know why, but when I see the artwork and read the lore about them, I feel a little Awe about them. They mostly make everthing in the Imperial Army yet they arn't part of it but more of a ally. As well as they believe the machine has a spirit and won't work probably without its blessing. But enough about what I think, lets hear it from everyone else.

P.S if I have any typos, sorry. It's late here and I'm typing on a laptop. Very bad combo lol.

Edit P.S.S Also if you have any questions about a certain faction just let me know and I'll give details about them as the best of my ablities.
You've missed off the best one. The Chamber Militant for the Order Malleus. They're not Astartes, they're something more.

I think i would have to be Adeptus Mechanicus. Being a bit of a mechanical dabbler in real life i have come to understand that all machines behave differently after a while and some will continue to function against all odds or mechanical logic. All hail the Omnissiah, the machine spirit is real :p
