I choose the one that doesn't include the new 150+ Pokemon.
What's that? The new versions do include those Pokemon and they didn't bother to include new Pokemon, not including previous Gen Pokemon, even though it's considered a sequel?
That's crazy!
No, it's pretty much standard since Gen 1 to have more than 2 games per generation. *points at Yellow, Crystal, Red and Blue remakes, Gold and Silver remakes*
Like I said, they are calling it a sequel, and not a third installment, which is what Black 2 and White 2
should have been, but they insist that it is a sequel because of the time skip and because they
insist that it is not a third installment, despite all the evidence point to the contrary. The only
true Pokemon sequel that has ever occurred in the handheld series is Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal.
I don't get why you don't classify this as a sequel could you please explain? it adds new areas and the storyline is a continuation of the last so what's the problem?
Two important points:
The first is compare this game and that to any Gen 2 title (Gold, Silver, or Crystal). Gen 2 was essentially a sequel to Gen 1, as the story is a continuation from Gen 1, there are
several new features that have become staples of the series (i.e. held items, shiny/colored Pokemon, breeding, etc.), there are new Pokeballs/methods of catching Pokemon, and yes, new Pokemon. On top of that, you can actually travel to the previous region and see the actual changes that occurred in the last 3 years since the previous Gen (which is a lot).
Now B2/W2 does take place 2 years after, but what are the changes? New areas in the same region, older Pokemon appearing the
same region that were previously not there, and no mention of new Pokemon, Pokeballs, or Triple/Rotation battles? They are merely injecting older and favorable Pokemon and characters into the new region? Sorry, but that just sounds like third installment.
Which ties into the second point: when I first heard of the conception of B2/W2 the first thing that came to mind was Pokemon Platinum. This third installment was based on the same region, only that it took place with a different setting and a slightly different story. The characters had a different wardrobe to tie into the changing environment from the first game (and not as a color scheme like in Emerald). This game didn't include any new Pokemon, had new areas to explore, and was an improvement over the first two Gen 4 titles. They also capitalized on changing Formes for Pokemon (originally conceived in Gen 3) and is what distinguishes Platinum greatly from Diamond and Pearl. They didn't have anything new (in terms of gameplay or core mechanics) and was not considered a sequel.
