I'm gonna get the one with major changes to the pokemon storyline, added pokemon, HD graphics and innovation.

Oh shit, that doesn't sound like something that would happen in pokemon...

Neither. Still in Heart Gold till either Magma Ruby and Sea Sapphire or Ruby and Sapphire two, whichever comes to be, if either come to be.

If pressed I'd go for the one that gives me Zekrom's transformation, as he's always appealed to me more.

Hey guys, I'm only here to be a buzzkill!

There's always one. Thought with these forums, change "There's always one." to "There's always twenty."

OT: Probably Black 2, because I got Black 1. Didn't like Reshiram, going with Zekrom.

I'm going to get Black 2 because I dunno, I usually go for the darker color of the two versions. But I can't wait to catch a Growlithe, Riolu, and the like early on in the game. I watched PokeCinema's LP of Black 2 and I must say that the game looks awesome. It's definitely a significant improvement over black and white, with much new content, and definitely better than what we would've gotten if they just gave us pokemon gray.

I originally got Black so I'm thinking of getting White 2, but looking at the list of exclusives it's so hard to pick! I wish I could just buy both!

Whoa whoa whoa, hard mode?

I think I know which choice is the obvious one.

Normally I go by exclusives, but this hard mode...that would be hard to pass up. I think I'll go in blind without even looking at exclusives.

I choose the one that doesn't include the new 150+ Pokemon.

What's that? The new versions do include those Pokemon and they didn't bother to include new Pokemon, not including previous Gen Pokemon, even though it's considered a sequel?

That's crazy!

No, it's pretty much standard since Gen 1 to have more than 2 games per generation. *points at Yellow, Crystal, Red and Blue remakes, Gold and Silver remakes*
Like I said, they are calling it a sequel, and not a third installment, which is what Black 2 and White 2 should have been, but they insist that it is a sequel because of the time skip and because they insist that it is not a third installment, despite all the evidence point to the contrary. The only true Pokemon sequel that has ever occurred in the handheld series is Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal.

I don't get why you don't classify this as a sequel could you please explain? it adds new areas and the storyline is a continuation of the last so what's the problem?

Definitely getting both...and I am definitely expecting the Mall of America in my neck of the woods to make a specticle of the game's release. That...and the usual cadre of Team Rocket cosplayers.

I'll be getting white 2 just for story continuation. Hopefully it'll be easy to find someone with black 2 in college since I want the hard mode thing

This is standard. Cut it slack for being one of the few Pokemon games to have a "2" at the end.

Also for this franchise's main games, fuck innovation they're awesome. Go play Pokemon Conquest if you're looking for amazing NEW FROM SCRATCH gameplay from the franchise.

well if HD isn't really that important to you I'd suggest that you play one of the spin-offs.

Two important points:

The first is compare this game and that to any Gen 2 title (Gold, Silver, or Crystal). Gen 2 was essentially a sequel to Gen 1, as the story is a continuation from Gen 1, there are several new features that have become staples of the series (i.e. held items, shiny/colored Pokemon, breeding, etc.), there are new Pokeballs/methods of catching Pokemon, and yes, new Pokemon. On top of that, you can actually travel to the previous region and see the actual changes that occurred in the last 3 years since the previous Gen (which is a lot).

Now B2/W2 does take place 2 years after, but what are the changes? New areas in the same region, older Pokemon appearing the same region that were previously not there, and no mention of new Pokemon, Pokeballs, or Triple/Rotation battles? They are merely injecting older and favorable Pokemon and characters into the new region? Sorry, but that just sounds like third installment.

Which ties into the second point: when I first heard of the conception of B2/W2 the first thing that came to mind was Pokemon Platinum. This third installment was based on the same region, only that it took place with a different setting and a slightly different story. The characters had a different wardrobe to tie into the changing environment from the first game (and not as a color scheme like in Emerald). This game didn't include any new Pokemon, had new areas to explore, and was an improvement over the first two Gen 4 titles. They also capitalized on changing Formes for Pokemon (originally conceived in Gen 3) and is what distinguishes Platinum greatly from Diamond and Pearl. They didn't have anything new (in terms of gameplay or core mechanics) and was not considered a sequel.

When I think about SRPGs, the titles that come to mind are the Disgaea series, the Final Fantasy Tactics series, and the Tactics Ogre series. Pokemon Conquest is pretty much My First SRPG. The game still runs on the Pokemon series' strengths/weaknesses system, while only allowing each Pokemon a single attack with a SRPG twist. The concept of classes and weapons are out the door and it just becomes an elongated Pokemon battle to find your opponents and either spam them with your Pokemon's only attack or cleverly use the environment around you (i.e. crush Pokemon with large boulders, and I don't mean the Pokemon either!).

Anyway, I won't cut this Gen some slack because after 4 great Gens, this one is starting to slip up and they are not making any attempts to either vastly improve it or just move on.

Neither, I don't buy DS games anymore since I have moved on to the 3DS. I'll wait for the 3DS Pokemon game.

It's like they want me to buy a Gamecube game in 2007.
