Also, it'd be careful of the Tau. ;P LOTS AND LOTS of fluff point at them being made by the Necron. 8D I love the hints, can't wait for the new Necron codex. (Hope it isn't ruined, though.)
Sorry to spoil the fun but:

The tau ethereals are actually a sub-race of tau specifically engineered by the eldar to unify the tau race into an anti-chaos weapon. They use a pheromone control method to unify the tau that was taken from a species called the q'orl. Whilst this doesn't prevent the tau being necron constructs it does make it unlikely, the eldar being the one race left alive that remembers them from the first time around and given the eldar's knowledge of what pariahs are. (From codex: assassins and codex: necrons)
Damn, how could I have not heard of this?

I always though the Tau were Necron constructs, due to having no warp presence, and looking VERY similar to Necrons. Also, there unity stuff sounds very Necron-ish, IMO, and I've seen other evidence.

Hmmm, thanks for alerting me to this.
Last time I was reading about, it was speculated that the human psyblunt gene could have been made by necrons. It seems redundant to speculate that necrons made the tau too... unless the Necrons are behind EVERYTHING?

Tau, there's something nice about having lots and lots of awesome rifle power backed up by Kroot ripping into them. Guard if you like tanks and sending wave upon wave of men at stuff. Not Daemonhunters most dry army, lacking in personality except being made of homicidal maniacs.

Didn't DoW pretty much CONFIRM that the pariah gene was put in humanity by the C'tan?

ALSO...The Old Ones, the Eldar and the C'tan are behind EVERYTHING...But humanity, oddly enough. XD Or at least this my stance.

On a random note...Power Rangers Commissar thread on /tg/...So awesome, want a linky?

Deamon hunters they combine the best of all imperial organizations you have the bread and butter grey knights(I would recommend only getting terminators)they are elite even in game terms then storm troopers (the elite of the imperial guard)and finally inquisitors with their unique retinue.

Oh well...
Well... it is only a mater of time until we see some kind of chaos tainted Tau... I'll admit, I never thought of it before.
I thought the issue was that the tau had no psychic-i-ness, so they were mostly immune to the effects of Chaos. Except for the stabby lacerating ones.

I'd say go with the Inquisition, that way you can pick and choose from the best of both the Guard and the Demonhunters.

I'm going with Tau because Chaos aren't on that list. I play both Tau and Chaos. Ironic, I know.

Being a 20-year veteran of the game, I can tell you that the Guard is the most fun you'll have on the tabletop. In a universe full of super-powered humans, daemons and fanatical aliens, playing as your average G.I. Joe is a blast.

And I can tell you from personal experience that there are few things as satisfying as killing hyper-expensive Terminators with a barrage of lasfire from puny guardsmen.

Plus, you get the coolest shit like Leman Russ tanks, Basilisks, and of course, the Valkyrie!

Besides, with Guard it's perfectly feasible to use Daemon Hunters as allies. I personally use a squad of Grey Knights with my Volistad 1st Scratch Regiment.

Also, finally, the Tau kinda suck. It's very hard to find a place for them in the 40k fluff. Fluff-wise, they are the most insignificant faction. And in the tabletop, my greatest victory ever was when 4 Death Company Blood Angel marines wiped out an entire flank of Tau infantry and tanks. So, yeah...

Yes, your guns are awesome, but the Guard has a lot more. And once the enemy closes in, you're done. Tau close-combat units are a joke, the Kroot are appalling against anything but the crappiest units, and the only things worth anything are the Crisis Suits, and even they will lose toe-to-toe against comparable units like Dreadnoughts, Stompas or Carnifexes.

i will honestly say that Valkyrie looks amazing, now one question you mentioned allies. Does that mean i can take pieces from the deamonhunter army and add them to my own or what?

Yes, you can take allies from several army lists. Obviously, most Imperial factions are interchangeable, meaning you can take a percentage of points (25%, I think, I need to check the rulebook) from other Codices. Guard can take Daemon Hunters, Space Marines, Witch Hunters, etc. as allies, plus a few alien races that would have a feasible reason to fight alongside the Imperium, such as the Eldar and even the Tau.

As the Tau, you can also make an auxiliary army, meaning, sometimes Imperial Guard units are left behind and are "absorbed" into the Tau military, fighting with a mix of Imperial and Tau weaponry. And of course, playing as the Tau, your options for allies are a bit more limited, but you can still take Imperial allies.

Edit: Allies are something you don't usually see on the tabletop, as each army is tailored such as that units complements each other, but I regularly take Blood Angels, Grey Knights, or an Inquisitor and Vindicare assassin with my Imperial Guard.

I would say Space Marine but it's not up there.

So go with Tau, they are probably the next in line for biggest baddasses in 40K.

Imperial Guard!
I had totally forgotten how much the Imperial Guard reminded me of the WW2 Red Army, but this reminded me of it, they are like human zerg.

Go Guard and craft a Zapp Brannigan figure for the HQ.

Always a pleasure to help new players. You'll find that the 40k community is one of the best out there.

The Tau are badass? Aren't these the guys that proclaim 'For the greater good,' run away from objectives that are to hard to hold, and would have almost no close range combat if it wasn't for their absorbed races?

I'll take the Armies of a dead superman any day of the week.

The Warhammer community is quite nice, if you can find them. Only one place around here has a group that plays 40K, and though a kind fellow told me the address of a comic shop that had the group, my GPS can't find it, and though I found the street it was supposed to be on, it wasn't there.

Do you guys use invisible play areas or something?

The key there is mostly. They don't have much of a warp presence, which is why they can use FTL systems mostly safely. IIRC it's part of how they came out of nowhere in the fluff, but I'm not sure. Still, they do have an effect on the warp so it's only a matter of time until chaos figures out a way to effect them.

Well, speaking for myself, there's a couple of gaming stores in my area, and each ahs its own sub-community of 40K players, who get together once or twice a year in a big tournament/gathering. Each store also usually has its own monthly tournament, and of course, there's the typical games that you just play with friends. I go to the same store at least once a week, and play a couple of games with friends. Of course, that all depends on where you live.

As for online, there are a number of big, big forums solely dedicated to 40k.

For me anyway, playing is only 1/2 of the reason im getting into it. Building, painting, learning the lore, all seem like a very fun way to spend my time, not to mention once i get a full army set up it would look epic just sitting their on a display shelf. But there is one local shop in my area that i know has at least some warhammer 40k players. The owner was saying warhammer fantasy was more popular, but all my research has led me to think that fantasy was more of a headache than 40k is. Do yall have any input on that?

Tau. Daemonhunters are ugly fucks, and the imperial guard forgot that it's the year of 40,000 and not 1979.
