Just like the title says. I have a feeling that the MS servers will fail on launch and anyone who was silly enough to buy one will just have a pretty brick until the servers can come back.

Remember the PSN blackout.

I voted no, because I don't think a hack will be necessary. I think Microsoft will manage to screw it up all by themselves.

Well, I figured with all the bonehead moves and nasty DRM, anonymous would at least give it a go. But you're probably right, they'll fuck it up themselves.

I think a hacking is certainly a possibility, and in the event that it does happen whoever's responsible will be a total douche.

I don't know. It would make a point on how going this way is an idiotic idea, imho. Plus I'll get giggles when it crashes and burns, just a side bonus.

It will be interesting to see. They have officially painted the target on themselves and they have turned on the spotlight. Time to see what they are made of.

Yeah, because fucking over thousands of people really gives you the moral high ground to make such a point... not.

As dumb as Microsoft is being, hacking their system means screwing over a large number of people, absolutely NONE of whom are behind the whole thing. As I said, douche.

Hmm, the PSN Outage lasted 24 days. Imagine people laying down 500 bucks for a brand new console, plus maybe a game or two, and not being able to do jack shit with it for over three weeks.

It might happen and if it does, people will cry and I, I will laugh. Hard. The outrage would be too magnificent not to.

I guess it depends on how many units they move and how prepared the servers are. If they sold their magic 78 million consoles it is likely their servers would likely be overwhelmed(see Simcity and D3 launches). On the other hand if sales are down i'd say there is a good chance it will launch with some bugs but overall work fine barring outside interference.

either way I know there is gonna be first day/week bugs in the system which MS is gonna have to ferret out. How annoying those bugs are is up to how well MS tested their services prior.

I don't think it would happen, but if it did then it would suck. I mean come on, guys! I hate the Xbox One as much as the next guy, but it would turn something people invested $500 into what essentially is a paperweight. Plus, people at Microsoft would lose their jobs, and I'm not talking the top executives. I don't wish that on anyone.

What is more likely is that the Xbox One's internal infrastructure will crumble by itself. That I don't think would be too tragic since no security would be compromised, and I think it would really raise awareness about how bad this DRM crap is. Plus it can be fixed much easier than a hack.

I'm half and half on this one really.

On one hand, I want it to happen, just to prove to Microsoft, yes, all the shit that they've done is fucking idiotic.

On the other hand, it doesn't sit well with me, that however many people, who perhaps aren't as informed/dedicated about gaming as we on gaming forums are, and just want to kick back with their new console and relax, whether they be someone who's had a hard day's work, or a kid getting it as a birthday present, then can't do so, all because some assholes decided to "stick it to MS"

Anyone who seriously thinks Xbox Live's infrastructure will fail on launch really has no clue what the reality is. Microsoft already has a giant target on its back. It already deals with hacking attempts and DDoS attacks on a regular basis. It already operates infrastructure for clients much bigger and with much higher reliability requirements than Xbox Live.

Put simply, Microsoft is one of those companies who knows how to Run Shit?.

Maybe not on launch, I think at that point people will just be waiting to see if the servers aren't overloaded by the users themselves, given the track record of such things. But I wouldn't be surprised if at some point down the line somebody dons the mantle of Anonymous to take a crack at Microsoft.

Sometimes.

As has been said, hacking is pretty low on the probability scale. Server problems however, are very likely and, I would go so far as to say, ideal.

Well, they had little outages in the past, but none of them lasted really long. Apart from that, these were mostly for their business service Azure, as Dexter linked to me recently.
Microsoft has years of experience with this. More than Sony has, by far. I mean, I can't say for sure that nothing will happen, nobody can. But right now it seems like everyone is just trying to give Microsoft even more bad reputation so that he is considered cool or whatever, or to fulfill some weird sort of fetish. I understand constructive criticism, but people have gone fully insane.
You know what? Just sit back and relax. I'm with you. It's their loss, or at least their wasted time for writing meaningless posts.

EDIT: I also just had a deja vu. Didn't we have all this hate before already, with Vista and whatever? Guess what - Microsoft turned out to be just fine. Even their Office 2003 activation servers or whichever version they introduced online DRM with are still up, with no problems at all.
