For some reason, new servers have a tendency to crash when too many people are forced to log into them at the same time. I'm not going to say they're going to crash, but I won't be surprised if they do. In case it doesn't happen, though, I'll applaud Microsoft for being the only company in recent memory to have enough server capacity on launch day.

There probably won't be any hacking though. Although, it would be kind of hilarious (in a very schadenfreude-kind of way) if someone decided to screw over the servers as soon as they fixed the almost inevitable launch problems.

Has anyone considered the fact that the Xbone basically has a timer on it from the minute it launches, since the inevitable end of the Xbone (either with the release of a successor or with Microsoft just closing its servers entirely) will mean that we all get gigantic, plastic bricks.

BUT THEY CAN AT LEAST PLAY TV.

I'm half and half on this one really.

On one hand, I want it to happen, just to prove to Microsoft, yes, all the shit that they've done is fucking idiotic.

On the other hand, it doesn't sit well with me, that however many people, who perhaps aren't as informed/dedicated about gaming as we on gaming forums are, and just want to kick back with their new console and relax, whether they be someone who's had a hard day's work, or a kid getting it as a birthday present, then can't do so, all because some assholes decided to "stick it to MS"
I can agree with this. I wouldn't mind Microsoft being punished in some way for what they're doing, but dragging in innocent bystanders probably isn't the best way to do it.

EDIT: Thinking about it now, they're probably going to end up knocking down the servers themselves at some point if SimCity was any indication.

I've no idea WHAT will go wrong on day 1 of the XBONE, but this IS Microsoft we're talking about, and the product they're selling has, so far, proven about as popular as tuberculosis. If the servers don't self-destruct, and Anonymous doesn't get them, I'm sure Microsoft themselves will find some silly excuse to kick them offline within hours. (Not enough users, perhaps?)

It's just a question of how. Any XBONE-buyers WILL find, for SOME reason, that they've made a huge mistake!

hacking aside i dont think they can afford to let the servers not be up to scratch. they saw what happened with diablo and sim city the thing is they cant rely on not having a enough capasity at the start and letting everyone twist untill numbers go down later. that can work with a game as you know its going to peak at the start then drop fast save some money and not bother with enough for everyone as it all all go to waste a few weeks down the line, its crappy customer service but it makes good financial sence.

with a console however you are looking at sustained numbers over a long period you cant rely on front loading everyone buying your product then wandering off in a few weeks you need it to be good for years to come.

if they were to have the apocalyptic server troubles that everyone is envisaging then wile it would come as now supprise to people on sites like this it would be a real eye opener to the <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/124970-Microsofts-Yusuf-Mehdi-We-Need-To-Educate-Consumers>uninformed target audience that MS is apparently aiming for.

its one thing to piss of the "hardcore" gaming community but if they show their hand to the less dedicated consumer how long do they think they will hang around. how long before they wonder why their shiney new game machine does not work and do the digging that MS thinks they wont bother to do.

I sus[ect that the authentication cheks are so low resource (probably about a kilobyte or 2, all you need) that a single working server will keep them running. Chances of collpase/hacking aren't really that high. Online play will probabl get shut down, but people are used to that by now.

I don't know if they'll be hacked, or taken down by a malicious third party presence (Unless you're like Microsoft and consider "People who play video games" as a "Malicious Third Party Presence") But if it sell's half as well As I fear it will those servers won't be operational for at least a week.

Which is just another reason you shouldn't buy one on launch.

I don't think it's necessary but maybe a scorned 360 user is tired of living on the right side of the law...

Actually the more I think about it the more likely it looks.

I doubt that a hack would have any effect because there will be about 100 servers for every Xbone owner at launch.

I sure hope so. Hahaha.

It's going to be rather entertaining.

I don't see why, as far as I know they'll be using the Xbox Live infrastructure already in place.

While that doesn't rule out someone with a grudge breaking the system, it does limit the possibility of anything stress based causing much of an issue, whether it be an attack or simply high usage.

I don't think any hackers will have to. If the servers stay up it will mean that Microsoft has failed to meet its projected sales targets by a fair chunk and the system has failed.

Personally I think there is a greater chance that the systems will get jail broken fairly quick. Microsoft's decision to region lock the systems and restrict them to 21 countries means that for a lot of gamers that will be their only option for getting it. In their zeal to fight piracy, Microsoft has essentially forced a huge chunk of the world market to become pirates.

If the servers go down for more than 24hours at ANY point in the system's lifetime, it's going to cause outrage across the board. It's an accident waiting to happen.
