Yeah, because fucking over thousands of people really gives you the moral high ground to make such a point... not.

As dumb as Microsoft is being, hacking their system means screwing over a large number of people, absolutely NONE of whom are behind the whole thing. As I said, douche.
One could make the argument that they're enabling and/or supporting said system though. Just saying.

OT: I would be fucking amazed if the Xbone's servers don't get DDOS'd on day one. Microsoft has basically done the same thing Ubisoft did with the PC version of AC2: they've dared the internet to test out their architecture. It's going to take upwards of a week before the servers have anything even vaguely resembling stability, and a lot of unhappy customers in the meantime.

Firstly, why all the poll options? Why not just Yes and No?
Secondly, no. Why would someone bother to hack a newly released console when they could be playing the games? I know people want it to fail, but wanting it to be hacked too is stupid.

I don't think it will be hacked. I think that what happened with SimCity will happen again, and everything will collapse. And after they fix it, THEN they will be hacked and everyone will hate them.

Supporting things like this is as much as being behind it as you need to be. If something like this happens, anyone who bought it might realise that something like a hack or the servers busting up would mean they're out of their gaming session for a while, even if said gaming session is single player; this is why we're against it, right, they're fucking over the consumer, if the people who aren't persuaded by words are persuaded by action then great.

OT: It's a possibility but I haven't heard a whisper of anything like this being planned, and usually by this point we'd at least have a rumour floating around. Since the servers haven't been launched yet and nobody knows how they're going to be set up I can imagine anyone planning something like this doesn't have much of a plan other than "hack it" a ddos might be a little too much to take on as well.

OT:Man, I didn't even think of that. Like, if some guy just hacks the servers a few months into release, keep them down for a week. Even a few days... oh the glorious fallout.
Keep in mind, it only took a million or so users to knock SimCity and Diablo 3 servers down on their launch days. And keep them down for a few days afterwards. Given that only about 25% of Microsoft's current userbase has the internet connection neccesary to use the Xbone, and assuming that they all buy it on release day, just how long does Microsoft think they'll be able to keep things running?

I have no doubt someone will try, but I am far less than certain of their success. What I see as more likely is the activation servers going fritzy on their own. Not full on crashes, but within a week, you'll see numerous complaints from people who had their whole console seize up on them, a good number of whom, the uniformed casuals specifically, will just assume the thing went rrod on them and try and get it fixed.

A successful hack, on the other hand, would be good in the long run, in my opinion. This would drive home the point of how bad a console with no offline mode is to people who don't follow gaming news or never really considered what being locked out of your game library completely, even if the error lies on the other end, means. It's not as if they couldn't just return their xbone for a ps4, plus an extra game and a discount on a second, so they wouldn't really be screwed at all. A successful hack would help them, admittedly in a very dickish way.

Hacked maybe no though possible.

But yes that it will go down or bad the first day.. highly probable. And remember without every 24 hour check.. no gaming for you.

Basically what everyone else is saying, while it shouldn't need to be hacked it will probably die a horrible death anyway, I mean a check in message isn't as resource intensive as say diablo 3's MMO server it will probably fail anyway although it will definitely get hacked, probably from a stupidly large number of sources , at this point I think anyone who's a hacker would be trying to give it a crack come release time.

Its just such a huge and rewarding target.

Eh, basically the poll shows the degree of disagreement and agreement. Plus, enough options there for people to comfortably choose with as little bias for their own opinions as much as I could make. I've seen some polls which are biased infavour of the OP's opinion, here I'd like to think I included options that covers everyone.

Errr? ok , well for some people hacking is more fun then generic shoot'em up 3000 or super shiny graphics racing and as for why we want it to be hacked are you new here? I think most of the people on this site want to see it fall flat on its face simply because of the drm , the no trading, the lack of ownership and forcing people to buy a Kinect that for whatever reason cant be turned off, I wonder why people want it to crash and burn is hard and as fast as possible

I voted no, because I don't think a hack will be necessary. I think Microsoft will manage to screw it up all by themselves.

it's be like Simcity and D3 all over again for sure.

though I don't doubt they'll get hacked at some point

I think there might be another sim shitty. They will just crash under the sheer weight of the users. Or there are no users. I really hope for that 2nd one.

That wake-up call is what I'm looking forward to most of all. I'd prefer if it didn't happen on launch though, that's too obvious. It needs to be later on when everyone is settled in and unsuspecting.

No, because some assholes screwing up their servers will give them a sympathy vote that we don't want them to have. They're going to lose this of their own accord, so we don't want a stupid hack job giving them any leverage to make themselves look like a legitimate victim. Let them fail because they did a very dumb thing, no excuses. Besides, do you REALLY want to hurt the families that are already going to feel bad if they don't like the Xbone?

At this rate I don't think Microsoft will sell enough Xbox Ones at launch to worry about network instability. Probably wont get hacked either.

Microsoft have certainly painted themselves as the villains this time around; I'm sure some "hacktivist" group is going to target them for the lulz if not out of spite.

I think it will be fine. Microsoft hasn't had much of a track record of sever failures and who would want to crash it? The only group who has been big enough idiots to disrupt something that is good for the consumers is Lulzsec and nobody liked them.

Just like to throw in that just because some of you don't like the Xbox One which is understandable, I sure don't, Microsoft isn't suddenly full of idiots or the big bad company out to ruin gaming. I think the launch will go fine and still get just as many users as the PS4.

Just reading through the thread, I hope people who want a hack to happen realize how much of an ass that makes you. 'Lets screw over all the people that just want to play games in an attempt to annoy Microsoft' is not the friendliest of ideas. I mean, what if I said somebody should take all your favorite developers funding because some people didn't like their games? Its not as if the minority that want to play said games matter.
