Oh and how glorious it will be!

Well it will probalby be mildly amusing in a very smug "what did we tell you?" way.

No, whilst Microsoft aren't by any means un-hackable (no one on-line is) they are at their core a software company, which means they tend to have very very good self made customized security software.

Sony on the other hand at it's core is a hardware company, they rely on 3rd parties for the majority of their software, which means that their software isn't as customized to protect Sony's specific set up as it could be with 1st hand software. Which leads to software loop holes and makes Sony easier to hack.

Of course that also explains why Microsoft consoles have a habit of breaking whilst Sony consoles don't. Because Sony uses self made hardware and Microsoft uses 3rd party.

In a perfect world you'd have Microsoft make the console software and network architecture, Sony make the console hardware and servers. And then you would get the best console period and Nintendo would be bankrupt. ... well provided the execs in charge didn't do what Microsoft execs are doing now.

As much as I'd love for it to happen to demonstrate very quickly why gamers are rejecting this system, I don't think it's going to happen.

Microsoft has to be prepared for that to occur (either DoS attacks or just the jump in users). I mean, Assassins Creed was prepared....Diablo III was prep....well....SimCity was....

Huh...you know, this is going to be interesting. Will Microsoft learn from the past? They HAVE to realize that [footnote]Just to be clear, not everyone getting it is going to be ignorant but if I were a betting man, I would guess for every 1 person who is knowledgeable and OK with what Microsoft is doing, 9 will not be aware of it[/footnote]consumer ignorance is going to be the one thing that is going to keep its system a chance but history isn't in Microsoft's favor. Xbox Live blew a fuse in what...Christmas of 2008 if I'm not mistaken but it hasn't had any major issues since then.

I voted for the "Yes, but it will suck" option.

Now, please be mindful; I don't think Microsoft should not be punished for their heavy anti-consumer stance. However, there will be dozens of hundreds of people aware of the restrictions of the console and just want to play the games Microsoft will have on offer. If Microsoft's servers will be down, people will be deprived of experiences they paid good money for, even if temporarily.

Thank you for this!

I know, I deserve to be kicked in the nuts by a horse but this idea made my night!

All the people who thought "I don't care whats going on, I'm getting an xbone" and then they can't play it EVEN OFFLINE for 24 days ... even a week would do for me.

What would give first? Microsoft turning this 24 hour check up off or mass returns?

Why should they be hacked? I would assume they are going to have trouble even without extern help.
Remote access to all those Kinect cameras is too good a lulz for the world's hackers to ignore.

Microsoft are setting themselves up for a huge lawsuit should anyone use those mandatory Kinects to film other people, or more hilariously, if a hack reveals Microsoft were doing it themselves.

Not than anyone will get anything out of Xbox Live for the week after launch.

In all honesty, I don't see it happening at launch. However, I do see it happening at some point down the line, especially with how big of a target they've made themselves. The interwebz is most certainly asshole-ish enough to do it.

Just like the title says. I have a feeling that the MS servers will fail on launch and anyone who was silly enough to buy one will just have a pretty brick until the servers can come back.

Remember the PSN blackout.

captcha: see red, yes I see red with all of MS draconian policies that less intelligent people are lapping up as gospel.
predicted xbox sales ( by actual informed analysts ) do not predict epic sales that would black out M$ servers
so, no it'll probably be able to monitor the 23% of the population that actually buys one quite happily.

Put simply, Microsoft is one of those companies who knows how to Run Shit.
Is that why millions of their original model Xbox 360's had to be replaced, often within a year (even months) of ownership?

I don't doubt that they've girded their servers against attacks and other general fuck-ups, but they have a track record for shitty software and poor hardware in gaming and on PC's, so I am expecting this always-online launch to be anything but smooth.

I would suggest the reason they ensure servers run well for big clients is because their business is dependent of good performance: one slip up and they lose millions of dollars, maybe even the whole contract, whereas gamers --no matter where their allegiance lies-- have made it repeatedly clear they'll bend over and take any shit they're given. When things do inevitably go tits up and Microsoft tell them to deal with it gamers will moan and groan on Twitter and on here but ultimately they'll sit on their thumbs until it's resolved then carry on like nothing ever happened.

And things will go wrong: Microsoft have made it repeatedly clear that they don't give a shit about the average consumer, so I see no reason why they'd change that stance now and give us the same treatment they give their high-profile clients.

I say the chance of a hack is about 51%, but the likelihood of it happening at launch is below 20%. If someone were to cause a server failure it'll be a few months down the road, when everyone is comfortable.

I think a hacking is certainly a possibility, and in the event that it does happen whoever's responsible will be a total douche.
I don't know. It would make a point on how going this way is an idiotic idea, imho. Plus I'll get giggles when it crashes and burns, just a side bonus.
Yeah, because fucking over thousands of people really gives you the moral high ground to make such a point... not.

As dumb as Microsoft is being, hacking their system means screwing over a large number of people, absolutely NONE of whom are behind the whole thing. As I said, douche.
If Microsoft wants the Xbox One to be so dependent of online capabilities and has not dedicated large amounts of security to protecting that investment, it would be them who are the douches. Especially, if it is as long or longer than the PS3 blackout which had weak security.

If you don't mind being screwed over as a innocent pawn by Microsoft as they battle legitimate consumers, then you shouldn't be bothered by being screwed over by Anonymous as they battle Microsoft for doing it. Either way you are getting screwed over as an innocent pawn. With Microsoft, you are the intentional casualty, with Anon it would be indirect and actually just as equally on Microsoft.

I don't think so. Microsoft aren't amateurs. They've seen the aftermath of SimCity and Diablo 3 and the like, I think they at least have the capability to provide servers. And although I do think they will be hacked in time, I don't think it'll happen on launch. Then again, what do I care, I'll be sitting back and relaxing either way. I'm not invested in it. To be honest it'd be kind of nice if they did fail, just to show people why an arbitrary and meaningless restrictive feature is still a disadvantage.

I mean, it'll suck for the people who bought it and just want to play their games, but at the same time...sort of being a prick, but I think it'd be a good thing if they were shown the consequences. Plenty of prospective owners are happy with the knowledge that they have reasonably reliable internet of sufficient quality so it won't affect them, but you do risk problems on Microsoft's end, and the Xbone may seem better than it is if this isn't brought to light.

Hacker #1: C'mon, take down their servers already!
Hacker #2: I can't, there's nothing to take down. Their servers crashed under the load of so many users.

Microsoft products seems to be remarkable easy to break in to. Hackers will shut them down every chance they get for as long as they can.

yes no doubt that theyll be hacked. Microsoft pretty much invited the hacker dipshits in. I personally dont care though. Im not buying one. Microsoft deserves it after the crap they pulled, and i loath hackers but micro asked for it.

I really hope it does happen. Sure, it might suck for the people who don't know any better in the short term, but they'll realize exactly what's going down if they have a bricked console near launch. Hopefully it'll discourage this shit from ever happening again.

That and it'll get all the morons with "great connections" defending it to shut up.

No, especially with threads like this popping up, MS would see it coming. If the system were to become unplayable for any period at all at or shortly after launch, it would kill sales and the console would die, MS will put every possible resource toward making sure that doesn't happen, as much as I would love to see it...

OT:Man, I didn't even think of that. Like, if some guy just hacks the servers a few months into release, keep them down for a week. Even a few days... oh the glorious fallout.

I voted "No, MS can do no wrong" because when they inevitably take over the world they will need loyal minions to watch over all the off-world slaves.

But don't worry, I will be a gentle taskmaster.
