The Comedian, well up until he started wearing the Gimp mask, that was kind of gay.
Bear in mind, Watchmen predates Pulp Fiction by a good ten years. In 198x it must have seemed less campy.

Anyway, I voted Rorschach and... yup, no surprise there. He has a comfortable lead.
Allen Moore is no prude, he would have known about gimp masks as so would have many readers.

I suppose he simply assumed most of his readers wouldn't be HOMOPHOBIC ASSHOLES!! Jesus, he fought the establishment for years to prevent anti-homosexual laws being passed in Britain now his fans are dismissing characters because they think part of their costume is "kind of gay".

THIS is exactly why he doesn't like his books being made into movies.

On topic, I can't decide on just one but the Nite Owl seems to be the only one who is not 100% badass cool though maybe that is the point, so that would make him one of my favourite characters again.

I'd probably settle on The Comedian, because I can't really think of another anti-hero quite like him and the comic would suffer the most to lose him, though then there is Dr Manhattan too, grrr, tough choice!

They're all great characters IMO... 'Cept Silk Spectre.
Rorschach: Memorable Quotes, and his fighting style :p
Nite Owl: I could really relate to him...
Comedian: He showed how heroes aren't all black and white, just a whole lotta grey.
Dr. Manhattan: Blue dongs. Need I say more?

Oh yeah, Apocalypse Now parody would've been so much better had Manhattan been naked. The sheer ridiculousness would've been too much for me.

Didn't like Ozymandias for the reason that he was overpowered. Sure, Manhattan could've destroyed the world, but he was a superhuman, so that was different. This guy, a mere HUMAN, takes on three Watchmen and pwns them all. WTH?

I'm really disappointed Escapists, I didn't think so many of you would make the mistake of thinking Rorschach was the best, Ozymandias clearly was the greatest character, as proven when he kicks everyone's ass. That man can fool a god, Rorschach has nothing on him.

Hard to choose, they were all so well-rounded... but Rorscach was the one driving the plot, so I'll have to go with him.

outfit wise i loved silk spectre and her mothers costumes.
Character wise i know not much of a character but i liked Silhouete. But, that's just me.
Out of the main characters, the gentleman who played the comedian is gorgeous, however i'm against cruelty to the innocents
Nite Owl :) go geeks!

I still haven't watched it but I will but from everything I currently know Rorschach seems pretty bad ass.

Rorschach because of that hilarious scene with the psychologist. All the characters are interesting in their own way but out of all I would want Rorschach to be real and kick around all the evil people of today!

The Comedian.

He is the perfect example of a "superhero existing in reality". He could get away with anything (and he did), and he thought he was better than the average man. It is great to see a superhero represent the bad side of mankind, not just the "shining light" side.

I know that is pretty much what makes a villian, but since the Comedian was technically a good guy, that is what made it so enticing.

I was gonna say Rorschach. Then I remembered that my favourite chapter is when Doc. Manhattan is being emo on Mars. So Doc. Manhattan it is.

Till Doc. Manhattan owns him.

Rorschach has to be the best character because he's so cynical and that he understands how bad people are. Same with the Comedian, but Rorschach isn't is much cooler.

Rorschach, he is pure win. But Hooded Justice was pretty cool in the movie when he beat the snot out of the comedian.

So here is why view on why all of you should have voted Rorschach
1. In a society where everyone is so morally gray he decides to remove the blackest parts.
Retribution at its best.

2. He's by far the most awesome person ever.
From the very beginning of the comic where he is commenting upon how corrupt society is and then brings me to my next point.

3. Though he is a murderer and a twisted psychotic he is still the good guy.
He is the only one who will stand up against an evil created perfect world. Its the equivalent of if everyone else saying the holocaust was good and and then going and condemning war forever because now we don't have "That problem" and hes the only person who is saying that Hitler is a bad guy and thus should be tried for murder.

Think of it this way lets say you are in a perfect world that was created that way. Would you want to live there when in history class you learn that millions where slaughtered, for no reason, to create that world

I personally would be on Rorschach's side when it comes to that question.
Thats why I say he is the best.

I get a kick out of the fact that most folks here voted first for "righteously murdering bat-shit crazy (like I did)", then "evil murdering rapist bat-shit crazy", and then God.

Blake, of all the characters, he is the only one who genuinely understands the world and his place in it. Even if he is a massive bastard, he understands, ironically it's what costs him his life in the end (at the beginning, oh crap now I'm confused).
