As far as I can tell from playing L4D online, it's mostly 12-15yo american boys who think that being able to push a button quickly gives them some kind of real world skill or status.

Haven't met a gamer over the age of 21 yet who's felt the need to denigrate anyone for being new to a game, so I really do have to assume it's an egotistical kids' thing.
There is a difference between being a noob and being a newb.

The second means almost nothing. It means you're not very experience in the game and you might not be any good, but you are willing to try to get better and you are having fun and genuinely don't want to piss off everyone else who's playing. A noob is someone who thinks they're great and don't need help, they scream and yell in their mic, and they care about K-D, W-L ratio above all else.

Edit: A Nub is absolutely nothing. Except a really good indicator you have no knowledge about gaming at all and you aren't even playing any games except on Facebook.

I say Noob.

i use Nub as self-satire, or simply a stupid joke.

Seriously, got a link to that video?
I don't know what the show is called... but I don't think it would be on youtube as its own scene, wasn't really youtube material if you know what I mean.
I'm pretty sure the show you're thinking of is 'iCarly'. I have to admit they are pretty annoying, and the word 'nub' is really funny because those three kids are the only ones in the world who ever say it.

I say noob. But that show that you were watching, does it happen to be called iCarly.

Because thats what came to my mind, their obnoxios little brats in that show.

And don't kill me, i was at a friends house and we had to watch what his 10 year old brothre was watching, because if we didnt he'd whine and complain and scream like a *****. And we were too bored and tired to do anything about it, so we were forced to watch iCarly. I really want that 30 minutes of my life back.

I generally use nub, and I am a fairly "hardcore" game (I despise that term) Generally it's a diminutive of noob, basically a young noob. I generally don't call anyon it though outside of joking.
Edit: I also say "nublet"

I pronounce and spell it now as noob.
I used to type it as newb, but everyone kept writing it as noob, and rather than confuse them, I started to type it as "noob."

And also, I only use it jokingly as it's a pretty stupid way to try using it as an insult... Every time I read "noob" I think Mortal Kombat and say: "Enter, Noob."

Noob just seems so harsh, but i use it the most though.

I NEVER say 'noobs', i say 'nubs'. Two meanings!

Hmm, really? n00b was just douchebag kid spelling of newb back when I started online gaming, though I suppose that like everywhere else, internet terms evolve (or, more often as the case seems to be, DEvolve).

Know an info site where an old prick like me can get up to date?

Id' suggest Urban dictionary but it's too full of dickheads that just want to spout off random, immature opinions than actual meanings that are in usage by more than 5 people.

Anyway, it's just something I pick up on. Such as this example, I was on a Total War forum(total war center) and some people were discussing the two terms and had a lot of examples of noob("why are my urbans getting beat by cataphract!? HAXXORS!" or, "I'm going to own you because I can beat the campaign on Very Hard/ Very hard difficulty!" or building a "box" of spartans in phalanx formation expecting to win just by the other person wasting their men by surrounding the "noobbox" and other such very, "noob" things.) and then, Newb who just is getting to know the many things to know in the game and multiplayer such as not knowing that ALT+attack will get units to use their secondary weapon for example(why cataphracts rape urbans: they have a Armor piercing mace). By the way one says it outloud or by the way they spell it, one can tell if you're being derogatory to the point of saying they are horrible people or just a stupid way of saying they're inexperienced.

Sorry if terms are a little foreign or the post too lengthy for such a simple question.

Nah, mate. I appreciate the length ya went to in order to illustrate the point. Back when I started, those flinging the term "noob" and "newb" around in a derogatory fashion were known as AOLer's, since they were the only degenerates who abused the language in such fashion (replacing letters with numbers, intentionally poor spelling/grammar, etc), and they were bloody easy to spot.

Since the 'net went mainstream (I'm old enough to have started on bulletin boards with a 300bps dial-up modem, when there was nothing to do except argue about whether an ISD could beat the Enterprise {easily, btw} and play MUDs), terms have changed so rapidly it's getting harder for me to keep up with. Wish I could get that kind of detail from my bosses.
