It's the only non-effeminate and non-ostentatious, socially acceptable piece of jewelery that a man can wear.

I would...

If I didn't have to take it off every morning for swimming.
Also, I'd break it unless it was made of something seriously heavy-duty.

I wear one all the time. Partly because my phone is always on the fritz, but mostly because it's very convenient.

I wear a wristwatch. I have done so for many years (same one). Not wearing it makes my arm feel uncomfortable, which is why I hate it when the battery runs out.

I'm 23 and I wear one. It's easier to check the time on that than pull my phone out, unlock it, check the time, lock it and put it away again.

I don't wear wrist watches anymore, I typically just look at my cellphones to check the time. If there were to be some type of high tech pda/vital sign wrist band thing that also told the time, I would wear it.

Edit: I guess what I'm think about is like a Pipboy only a little smaller and more stream-lined.

I do. You never have to turn off a wrist watch for everyone else in the room, their batteries last forever, it's easy to find a waterproof one cheap, and they take up less space. They're very practical when you're out of doors. Also, wrist watches look good in a way cell phones can't. A silver watch with a black jacket or shirt looks awesome.
Yeah I'm another one saying; doesn't everyone wear them? the only people I know who don't wear wristwatches are children.

Also agreeing with the practicality aspects of the bronie. I often need to check the time when I'm cycling, walking or just sitting, at all those times I do not want to have to dig through my pocket and unlock/turn on my phone when I could just move my hand one inch.

So, part of the reason I asked, is because I have noticed a trend in 'functional' objects slowly turning into 'fashion' objects.

For example, there are lots of automatic cars that put the 'gear shift' on the floor, even though it isn't necessary. Similarly, breast pockets on most shirts are there for looks not functionality! I think Wrist watches will or have gone that way. You don't NEED a separate device to tell you the time anymore!
I do look forward to the day my phone battery lasts 7 years and I can strap it to my wrist.

I always wear one. Much easier to check the time than with a mobile phone.

I don't but I wish I did. I can just never find a watch that I like and that doesn't cost the same as a small island

I wear one all the time. A nice sliver one for when dressed in civilians, or a black sports watch when I'm out in the field.

This is my first post here. I've seen some interesting threads in the sidebar while watching Zero Punctuation, but I've finally decided to take the plunge and chip in :)

I used to wear one when I lived in America about ten years ago; where going to middle-school meant you simply had no chance of knowing whether or not you'd make it to class on time, without some form of clock on your person. Additionally, it was pretty fun being able to count down the seconds to the end of the day. I also used it for running, as we would do the mile in P.E. and it was nice to keep track of my progress. Then the battery crapped out, I got it fixed, it crapped out again and I just couldn't be bothered with watches anymore. This was around the time I got my first phone, and I've been using my phone to wake me up in the mornings and keep track of time ever since.

I know a lot of previous posts have highlighted the almost obsessive need to check the time; and after giving up on repairing my watch I'd decided it was time to take things down a notch, and smell the metaphorical roses. This along with the sense of freedom of not having anything on my wrists (yep, I'm one of those people) was what made me abandon the wrist watch.

I do, and I'm lost without it. I've got a phone as well, but it's always easier to check a watch than a phone.

I was reminded of this watching the LRR about synchronizing time. Why would people even wear these things? They look and feel as outdated as a 'cell phone' the size of a toaster.

Conclusion: Old people are the only ones who wear wrist watches.

Edit: It ate my poll, oh well.
I'm 18. I wear mine as a fashion accessory rather than an actual timepiece, although I do like to keep it wound and correct. It has a skeleton face so you can see all the gears whirring.

Plus an automatically winding wristwatch never runs out of energy as long as you keep wearing it.

I have a 200 dollar watch my Mom got me that I wear on special occasions. Generally if I have to dress up I will wear it. I don't wear it for my normal activities though. I use my phone for time in those cases.
