I'm surprised there's so many votes for Cole, to be honest. It's amazing what people can will themselves to be blind to if they try hard enough. Almost as if they believed they were voting for their favorite game, not the strongest character. Funny that.

Don't get me wrong, Cole is a functional hero. He'd be the equivalent of perhaps an Electro or something.

Mercer would be much higher than that. Like a combo of the T-1000 and the Hulk. He was, in fact, designed to be an insanely unfair character. Look at who they regularly fight.

Cole can have trouble with a group of ten First Sons. Mercer routinely fights twenty to thirty soldiers, a few tanks and choppers, and various infected mutants all at once and wins.

Remember the slow-mo snipervision? Alex wouldn't even know Cole was there until his brain started to fry. In addition he'd need to be able to get close with Cole shockwaving him like he's playing Pong.

I guess it would come down to who could absorb who the fastest or at all. Sure Alex can absorb normal people, but Cole ain't normal. Same goes for Cole draining Alex's bio-electricity. My guess is that it would result in a feedback loop until each reach critical mass and cause and explosion that infuses the universe with pure awesome.
