Neither...I think I've heard of George Carlin but have no idea who he is and MJ's music was in no real way relevant to me, though I respect what he did, and I only knew him as a person as a complete weirdo; granted that was probably due to factors outside of his control.

Billy Mays. His signature charisma on those infomercials was amazing. I may buy a shamwow just to commemorate him.

But out of these 2, carlin takes the cake.

Why is there no option for "Neither, they were both meaningless to me"?

Because thats what I would vote for.

I want to change my answer to Frank McCourt. Angela's Ashes is a book that people almost owe it to themselves to read.

I'm pretty ambivalent to both. Granted, they were both excellent at what they did, but I was never that much of fan of either. I can't muster up any feelings towards their deaths beyond 'well that's a shame', I didn't know either well enough.

If I have to pick someone, it would be Billy Mays. >:D

I don't really take the deaths of celebrites very hard, I'll usually be a little miffed about it at first (Like with Billy Mays, that guy was awesome, hell, I even made him in Saints Row 2!), but within 2 days I'll probably be making a joke about it (Again, Billy Mays).

Since I was born in 91 I did not have a single good memory of Michael Jackson.
I second that exact statement.

And I was genuinely saddened by Billy Mays' passing, he was far too young, and it was made even stranger because I've been watching and loving every minute of his show "Pitchmen" on Discovery. They did a tribute a few days after his passing that was very touching.

Theo van Gogh, one of the last freespeakers from my country. He was shot and then had his throat slit by some moslim extremist.

I originaly was going to put a lot of options, but I opted for only the two to keep the poll from going askew. I chose George Carlin over everyone else because not only was he completely awesome but I figured more people would know him over a lot of other personalities. I'm actualy very surprised by the amount of "Who is he?" I'm getting. Like I stated before, I figured people would at least know him for his roles in movies, if not his stand-up.

Personaly, I like Michael Jackson. I like many of his songs and when I hear them, I can't help but sing along to them, sometimes having to stop myself from dancing around. I love his Moonwalker movie; It's great! I also loved Thriller and still think it's one of the best videos ever made. I personaly don't even believe him to be a pedophile. Just some guy who's head is not on right. His parents and the public have screwed him up so very much. And I believe they are the reason he's dead right now. Between all his surgery and medication, all for them.

And now all these people are coming out of the woodwork to praise him. People who've never cared before are seen in the streets crying. Even coming onto this site, never once had I seen a single MJ thread, but the day he died there were way too many to count. Yet the death of anyone else, only the people who cared before really cares.

Billy Mays was a good salesman. He was energetic, amusing, and had tons of charisma. But he was only a recent fad to me. Thirty years from now, people will still be dicussing, watching, listening to Michael Jackson and Georg Carlin, but the only people who will care about Billy Mays are people studying him in school.

And if this was about people dying too young, Heath Ledger and Mitch Hedberg would have been the two choices. This is about how messed up the world is when it comes to death. Someone great dies and no one cares. Someone popular dies and it's the end of the fucking world. What the hell is wrong with this picture?

Neither has affected me in anyway, other than the fact that there were a lot more Jackson songs on the radio.
