I've been around a few boards and a certain theme struck me...People really do seem to either love or hate Call of Duty. If you do dislike the games, In a grown-up manner, please explain why.

Personally, i feel if your playing a COD game and trying to be hardcore about it, your doing something wrong. Call of Duty, to me, is all about mindless destruction and less tactical action. But please, if you hate the game, tell me why.

Forgot to add, if you love it, explain that too. This is just a thread to explain your feelings on the series as a whole.

Used to love the series, went downhill since COD 3 in my opinion. Its all about 'prestige' and kill/death ratios now.

I hated it at first, just because it was so popular.
I eventually caved and gave it a go, I wouldn't say that I loved it but it passed the time, therefore fulfilling it's purpose.

Imo, the people who hate it are really just the hardcore players who dislike it when other people have fun at their expense.

I don't hate it, but I'm truly disappointed in the path it took. I loved them for being immersive, singleplayer action games. Then they, for want of a better word, sold out. MW2 was overpriced and underlength, the plot went out the window and into a volcano and then the volcano got nuked... yeah, I'm disappointed, not a hater. If they redeem the franchise, I'd be all on board again.

I like it. Nice series, and is barrels of fun with friends. Yes multiplayer is annoying, but it's just a flaw.

A big flaw nonetheless, but I still overlook it.

I'd personally say the game is pure shit in my book, but just to answer to your criticism in this aspect: You do know what's going on with IW, don't you?

I hate the developers, (the games are solid and perfect shooters) but the lack of direction and Infinity Ward thinking they can get away with anything really ruined it, escpecially on multiplayer. They didn't even think about the reprocussions of killstreaks and icons.

It's like

"Hey guys, killstreaks WERE the best thing about call of duty 4, lets put a shit load of them in our up and coming sequel, hey while we're at it we'll make an end game winning killstreak for all the publicity"

And now we have boosters, hackers, glitchers. All which i have seen in action, i really hate my friends for asking me to boost with them, don't you guys respect me as a fellow gamer NOT to cheat?! sorry got carried away there.

Not going to buy black ops btw.

Don't hate the franchise. I loved each game up until MW1 which I really enjoyed for about 2 months at which point it became tired and repetative, the DLC and general support for the title made me dispise IW.

WaW was fantastic, I genuinely love the game, zombie mode being a big part of this. Awesome DLC and support for the game (Treyarch actually listening to their customers wants) was a breath of fresh air, the game stank of hard work and commitment to making the game the best it could be.

MW2 was fun for about 3 weeks. Bland, repetative, throw-away disposeable gameplay that could basically have been called Halo 4 : modern combat. Terrible DLC and terrible prices and unforgivable community support (the community blatently wanting a zombie style mode but IW's ego being such that they would never do something that their supposedly little brother Treyarch came up with). The game stank of rushed, shoddy workmanship and cash grabbing, I mean the single player was what 4 hours? MW2 might as well have been released as a DLC for MW1

Black Ops will I think be just as great as WaW I could be wrong but I dont think so.

Thankfully IW have been ripped apart so the ego factor may have been taken out and the COD following black ops may have effort, time, love and attention spent on it. If not it will be the same and the people who left IW for the new EA company will make a game that made MW1 so successful.

A lot of things could be attributed to the hate.

The mindless multiplayer, which hundreds of thousands of people play everyday, most without touching the single player. The fact that the Single player, was EXTREMELY poor with a story that had more holes in it's plot then Swiss cheese and yet its still the fasting selling game on the planet.

How the community of the game is piss poor and often inhabited by campers, children and just all around immature assholes.

Or you could use the excuse that people hate everything that's popular. Either way, they just don't like it. So what?

Love it. Warfare done right.
I can understand why people like Modern Warefare 2. The customization and experience systems make it approximately as addicting as crack, it's a popular game so you can play with all your friends, and the game is well polished with a fair bit of content.

That being said, it has very little to do with warefare. Arma2 is much much closer to warefare, and even then it's not terribly accurate.

So yeah, I have a problem with your statement due to a technicality.

I loved Call of Duty 4, hated 5 and 6. Am hyped about Black ops.

It's just about online balance and frustration level or, how fast you get frustrated.

When you get killed 8 times in a row by a guy with a knife when you have a 50 caliber sniper rifle you tend to MAKE RAGE!

Call of Duty 2 and 4 were the only games in the series that I liked. WaW was okay, only thing I really liked about it was zombies, and MW2 was overhyped as hell and was a poor followup to 4.

I'm not that bothered about the series but then I've only played Modern Warfare and World At War. Also I hate online multiplayer and have avoided it thus far so maybe that has something to do with it.

And starting rant... now... *big breath*

I love the series! I've been with it since the start. Does that mean I think every game they make is gold? NO! CoD3 was down right shit, World at War was quite a failure (Not talking about Zombies though), and MW2 game me aneurisms. Does Black Ops have the potential to be good, awesome, and all out badass? Fuck yeah! But there is the chance where it will turn out to be just like MW2 within a few months. The only thing CoD has never been truly horrible in is Single Player. Solo is fun and awesome. Only CoD3 disappointed me in single player.

Both developers are good at Call of Duty. They just need to stop doing stuff. Infinity ward need to stop glorifying war so much. War is not pretty, That's one thing Treyarch get's right. They have aspects that show that War is chaotic and is shit. But Treyarch tries too hard. Face it look at all the stuff they've added to Black Ops multiplayer that they showed off at the event yesterday. There is way too much customizable stuff. Yes being able to customize stuff is fun and cool. But there is a point where it just gets overwhelming. Treyarch needs to stop trying to beat Infinity Ward. Despite what the community says they are not in a race. Treyarch needs to stop copying Infinity Ward and do their own stuff and come up with their own ideas. They already proved that with Nazi Zombies. But yeah if Black Ops turns out to be shit, I'm considering now buying from the franchise anymore and find something else.

Annnnnd end rant... *exhale*

Same reason people hated Halo, because it's massively popular.

Fact is, these games are excellently crafted, but MW2 is the Halo 3 of the series, somewhere in that well designed game, something is fucked up. MW2's case, too many exploits and some ridiculous builds. Great game though (Co-Op and Single Player campaigns for me).
