Cat's are the Ho's of the pet world. They will go to anyone who gives them food and affection and when it is gone they will leave and go to the next one :p

Cats kill purely for pleasure, and I'm fucking sick of the screeches of the birds my roommate's cats bring down and play with while they're still half dead. They physically smash them around our garden and then leave them when they die to get another one. This is not an isolated incident with my roommate's cats either.

On the other hand, eeeeeeeeeeevery dog I've ever seen has been a lovely creature, even the more vicious ones are kind and loving to their owners and people they get used to. Cats will happily claw you (I've had to pry one fron veeeeery near my testicles before) if they're bored. I honestly prefer rats to cats, and that says something.

I think it's because some people see it as choice between cats or dogs (like the Cats & Dogs example you list), and because dogs tend to be more easily controlled people prefer dogs. At least the prevalance of LOLcats means the internet loves cats (aside from NEDM, but that's better forgotton). Also, Stuart Little isn't really an example, as the cat (I don't remember the name) is only a jerk at the beginning and grows to care about Stuart as the film progresses.

Also, I fucking love Milo and Otis. You have no idea. I should really watch it again, I haven't done so in years...

Haha, I love cats and I don't mind dogs but I don't exactly care for them.

I have 3 dogs and 3 cats, 2 of the cats are barn cats but the last is one we adopted from a neighbor who moved away.

The cat is steel gray and very, very large but he defies all known stereotypes of cats (besides being lazy), this cat actually likes people and will follow me around everywhere (it sat outside the bathroom door the entire time I was showering), doesn't claw the crap out of people, likes drinking chicken soup broth (yes the broth...not even the chicken in the soup), etc.

I love that damn thing to death and if he is alive when I move out I am most definatley taking him with me...

I don't care for dogs as they are higher matinence, generally less well-behaved, like to slobber everywhere, and jump on you...

To each his own based on experience I guess. About 5 out of 20 dogs I've seen have tried to bite me when I first saw them. I've never had a problem with a cat personally. Dogs kill purely for pleasure too if you've seen a Greyhound chase a Rabbit or a stray Cat. Most of the things that people accuse cats of doing have been done by Dogs too.

Oh and cats vision is based on movement. Killing creatures is how they play, and if there is no movement then they feign interest.

Because cats are evil.
Pretty much, and why not just get a dog or another animal that might acknowledge your existence for more time then it takes to feed them?
Exactly, dog are loyal and love you, cats just stick around long enough for you to shell out food then leave again.
Is that really a reason to deliberately kill a cat though? You rarely here about people trying to murder dogs in comparison to the number of cats slaughtered every year. Although granted cats have an innate ability to climb fences.

See the other response in regards for the second remark though. It depends on the personality of a cat. It would be foolish to assume all cats think and act in the way you have described. Some do, many do not.
Did I ever say I would kill one?

You know dogs kill for pleasure as well and that some people actually want their cats to kill things?

Our dogs have killed countless squirrels, rabbits, and birds even though they are behind a 6 food chain-link fence...they have even killed some of our chickens.

Our cats on the other hand haven't bothered our chickens at all and help to exterminate the moles and mice where we live...heck they even kill spiders.

We had a cat a long time ago who even killed some snakes...cats seem to be much more useful than dogs in that regard even though it can be distressing when you see a cat bring back a still living rabbit or bird...that rats can fuck off though.

I just don't like that they claw around in a box filled with gravel and feces and then walk all over everything. Also, they're very aloof creatures.

No, and I apologize if it sounded like I was accusing you of it. However, just as Cats often kills birds for what people see as pleasure, people do the same to Cats. My last Cat was skinned and hung upside down by my psychopathic neighbour. Dogs don't get the same treatment. Hell, Rabbits are treated better.

Are you talking about Kitty Litter for an indoor Cat? So would you rather they shit on the floor in your house instead? And what if you had an indoor Dog? Are you prepared to get up to open the door for them every time they need to make Poop?

That grey cat I mentioned I had seemed to exhibit this...

It caught a very large rat and brought it back to our garage (our driveway is a 150 foot straight shot of gravel) it then proceeded to let the rat go (the rat was unhurt) and then lazily followed the rat as it ran away..that cat then proceeded to grab the rat again and bring it back...only to let it go..this happened 3-4 times before the cat instantly broke the rat's neck...

Hardly the cruel "smashing" that the other poster thought.

Even though I don't like them I'm not going to hurt them, hell the worst I have done is give them a dirty look and tell them to go away, hurting one would be wrong, and did you call the cops on your neighbor?

Yeah I called the Cops and the RSPCA. I also called them when someone I knew had 4 dogs, 3 cats, only fed the animals once every 3 days with table scraps, didn't neuter them and claimed that they couldn't afford the pets (meanwhile this person can still pay for an exuberant Gym membership and the fuel for a V8).

I have no problems with cats. Sure I like dogs better but there is nothing wrong with a cat.

Thanks for the nostalgia attack OP, I grew up with that movie!

Also, without cats we wouldn't have Catgirls!

Edit: I found this clip browsing Youtube and I thought I would share it here as it seems appropriate.

Dogs are easier to train and place in media settings, so they do what the director wants more often. As a result, they are placed in roles sympathetic to the audience and get more screentime. This usually means making them the "good guys." Also, dogs are more "interactive" in the sense that Lassie as a concept works, but a cat is less able to fill such a role in a believable way.

Once dogs are established as good, their natural foil is the cat.
