I think the reason for what inspired this thread(your cousin trying to run over the cat) can be explained quite simply. He is just a huge prick.

Dogs bite people. Cats do not bite people. Yet people "love" dogs, but are "unsettled" by a cat's autonomous ways.

Conclusion: people are weak, malicious, and selfish little bastards. Those "unnerved" by a cat's free will quite possibly have a problem dealing with their own.

Btw, I love both cats and dogs, and virtually every other animal (if it isn't super ugly, and even then...)
Ummm... yes they do. They do a lot. I've been over my friend's house, he has a cat, and it always bites me for no reason.

And they can and have done a lot worse than biting. Clawing your legs if you dare get up, for example.

And by the way, my dog has never bitten me in anger, only when we're play fighting(it's quite fun).
I meant like, bite to kill. A cat can hardly kill you. And when cats bite, it's almost always playful or if you're doing something to it that it doesn't like (forcing it to do something, holding her tight against her will, etc.).

Plus, you can't train a cat to hate, attack, or kill other people. With dogs, heh, it's institutionalized, and dogs are being used as weapons in both the police and the army. I fail to see the threat hazard comparison between cats and dogs, seriously.

My point was that humans are envious of what they can't control, and they often want it destroyed or suppressed, while they are fond of controllable, trainable and tameable dogs, for example.

Cats, I bloody hate them. With their meowing and hissing, then they start to piss and shit all over the place. And their 9 fucking lives.

Cookie for those who got the referance.

Really, I don't mind cats, I'm allergic (very allegic) to cat hair, though. Tom and Sylvester can be argued to be good characters, because the mice they chase are stealing cheese and other various foods. Snowball was jealous of Stewart in Stewart Little, but had a change of heart at the end. As for the other two, well their stereotypes and parodies.

I do not hate cats, but I do not love them. The same could be said of most other domestic animals. But I like cats more than most other animals, specially dogs.

Well in that case, you're right. The teeth aren't long enough to do much damage(still bloody hurts though). Although if you want get into the realm of fantasy they could cut your throat with their claws if they REALLY wanted to.

And FYI, I wasn't doing anything to the cat. In fact, I was trying to avoid it as much as I possibly could. So it probably just didn't like me.

What the hell are you serious‽‽‽ D:

How did you react? I'd probably pass out if i saw something like that.

OT: People seem to personify cats, thinking they act shifty and think they're better than everyone else when really it's just how they act by nature. I find it kind of annoying, my Mum genuinely believes that my cat thinks it's better than everyone else, it's a fucking cat.

Because I like many others, have had a horrible track record with cats. Every damn cat I meet, either hisses and tries to rape my leg, or claws my feet down to bloody nubs. To quote Gregg "The way they meow and they piss everywhere, and their [bleep] smells just bloody awful, all over my furniture, I just ?"

Though I will admit there are some cats, I like. But those are usually the ones my Cousins, or friends keep as pets.

Because cats are evil.
Pretty much, and why not just get a dog or another animal that might acknowledge your existence for more time then it takes to feed them?
Exactly, dog are loyal and love you, cats just stick around long enough for you to shell out food then leave again.
I have a dog, a massive one called Olly (a Boberman, two years old in October). I also have a tiny black and white cat, almost a year old, called Bandit. They get on really well together, and Bandit loves being around us (although she fights so hard to stay out when we try to bring her in the house each night when we go to bed - she'll stay out all night sleeping on the shed roof...). She usually spends most of her day sleeping in the conservatory or garden, but whenever I'm on my laptop she wanders over and just sits on my lap, letting me stroke her. She also has a curious liking for my bed, sleeping on it when I'm trying to revise or read or listen to music.

Anyway, cats are awesome. And OP, your cousin who tried to run a cat over? Next time you see him, punch him in the face for me, and try to knock him out. And say it was from a cat-lover on the internet. The guy sounds like a complete and utter **** (excuse my language there), and doesn't deserve an ounce of respect or sympathy. Anyone who thinks it's fun to run over an animal just because they don't like the species deserves to rot in jail. It's called animal cruelty. Maybe he should look it up. And then he should look up the meaning of the term 'jail rape'.

Because each and every cat on Earth is worse than a thousand Hitlers. They do nothing but eat, sleep, crap, and claw, and they should all be launched into the sun via a freakishly huge medieval catapult. No pun intended.

I have no problems with cats. Sure I like dogs better but there is nothing wrong with a cat.

Thanks for the nostalgia attack OP, I grew up with that movie!

Also, without cats we wouldn't have Catgirls!

*sigh*............................ That's my new reason to hate cats.

When some people keep animals, they feel that they are indespensable to their pets life. With highly domesticated animals, such as dogs, this can be true (think toy dogs). However, almost every cat I've met is fiercely independant (Declawed cats don't count). It is only convenience that they even bother sticking around. This disturbs some people. Dogs were domesticated by taking and caring for a puppy. The relationship between the early humans and dogs was more like that of a fuedal lord and a serf than parent/child. Cats, however, were never truly domesticated. Some theories suggest that early cats would kill rodent infestations of a village/tribe's local granary, and because cats eventually just "got used to us", and vice versa, we tolerated each other enough to share shelter. This relationship is more like two roommates than master/servant. I'll edit this if I feel my post isn't long enough.

Dogs are like little servants, they want to make you happy. Cats are like little Roman Emperors, they expect to be served...

Plus cats are pretty well known for killing anything smaller then them, but I still kinda like cats and love kittens as I work with them...

Its a sad sad day when people don't love cats :[
But it's a perfectly normal day when cats don't love people back. And I think that's probably the main reason why many people dislike cats.

Dogs are social pack creatures who stay loyal to their masters for good or ill, whereas cats can be "social" but more often than not out of selfish reasons.

Cats don't jump up in the lap of their owners because they want to be intimate, they do it because they want to be scratched and pet because they think it feels good. If their owner died, the cat would just go and find some other random human to satisfy it's needs and wants.

So, while cats might be cute-looking and cuddly and all that, they never really do anything for any reason other than to satisfy their own selfih needs and care little about the person who does this for them.

Then again, that's what you get from an animal that is a natural solitary hunter, and I for one don't think it's a viable reason to hate cats. But I think that is one of the key reasons why some people do...
