Got suckered in so a friend could get a mount from the Recruit A Friend. Played for a couple months but ran out of time interest and money in that order.

A friend of mine played in closed beta and then forced me to play open beta and then I got hooked for next 5 years... Quit because I got a job that started too early so I couldn't raid.

Loved StarCraft, and really liked WarCrafts II and III. Bunch of likeminded friends were hyped up about WoW, and I got to test playing a bit on one of those friend's Open Beta account, and it just went from there.

You could have done like the hardcore players, you could just skip sleeping, have a coffee machine on your desk, raiding and because there was little time left to sleep just go to battlegrounds or farm soime stuff.

Joking obviously. I started raiding less and less for the same reason until all the rest made me quit for real.

I played warcraft first because a partner of mine played it and got me to join in. I played for a month and then stopped, but I enjoyed it enough as a diversion. Then a year and a bit later, a friend offered to pay half the subscription fee, because I was quite poor and they wanted somebody they knew to play with. Recently, they've had to stop paying half, and the game isn't worth enough to me to pay the full fee, so I've stopped too. I enjoy the game fine, and I found a great RP community to participate with, but it's just not worth that much to me. Simple financial decision.

I used to play Runescape and loved it, but it got lame when my friends left. I didn't really care about WoW at first, but then one of my good friends got it. It seemed amazing. I didn't watch him much and he only seemed to run around a bit. I wasn't allowed, though, because of paying monthly. I think my best friend got it to, then... And I watched him play it at his house and it was still awesome. Still wasn't allowed.

I then went to Switzerland over the summer and that's what got me hooked. My favourite thing to do in Switzerland is go on the mountains and walk/hike. I can't really experience that in Edmonton, so I thought WoW would do it. I was super-excited about it by the time I got home, and my parents couldn't stop me xD The thing that swayed them was that I would pay for it myself; my friends all had their parents paying for it. Thinking back, my parents were right.

I stopped playing though. I don't really see the point when there's LOTRO, since I love LOTR so much and Warcraft is basically an emulation of LOTR lore. It still holds a special place in my heart, but I doubt I'll be going back... What sucks is that my character, a dwarf rogue, is stuck on a Normal server. I want to go on PVP-RP, but I can't transfer to them (and if I can, it costs too much). Cataclysm is making it exceedingly hard to stay away, though... Argh.

I wanted to see what it was like, I played it for a month straight. Probably the least fun I've had with any game, just relentless tedium through and through. I concurred that I wasn't missing much and never touched it again.

And to all those people who say "WoW doesn't start till level ##", I don't have that kind of time, and neither should you!
WoW doesn't start till level 350!

Anyway, I liked the RTS series and decided to check WoW out with a friend, since then I've quit and started playing again several times.

I have a lot of real (and now online) friends who play.

Me and my mage are still trying to kill that mother****er Rotgut.

A few friends got me into the game a few years back. I was instantly hooked and wasted much of my time in the past three years to the damned game. Nowadays I go back and forth on the game because I still like running the occasional heroic with friends. Not surprising, I don't miss much on the months I take off.

Saw the southpark episode, heard kids talking at school.

"Hmm, I might as well try it."

*1 week later, it is removed from my computer due to boredom.*

I wasn't playing any other games at the time and it was fun. Once I'm done with HeartGold, I'll probably go back.

I played it because all of my friends were. Now none of my friends are and I keep getting kicked from guilds for inactivity due to long school terms. With no-one else you know online, it is a uniquely boring game.

Started playing because a friend played.

Then I quit, leaving my lowly 40 hunter near the BC portal after waiting there with a few hundred other players when the BC portal 'opened'.(nothing happened, people were just able to walk in, if they managed to reach the portal with all the fighting)
After the WotLK release I played again for a few months, but I fortunately quit before that whole Gearscore bullshit, and I'm not returning until that is gone.
