I like the Zelda series mostly because it was what actually got me into gaming, so the games and the world itself has a sense of nostalgia for that reason. Also, I know a guy who is more passionate about the series than me, so I don't really think that it is just girls.

I'm a girl, I love the Zelda series. Or most of it anyway. Mix of two things, firstly the fact that it's a huge part of my life, Ocarina of Time was the first proper game I ever played, and I learned to read through it, because I got bored of how slowly my mother dictated the game to me.

Secondly I like the somewhat puzzley, somewhat actiony gameplay it has going on, more challenging than your basic shooter or what have you, but not so hard that I need to pull out the walkthroughs. I like knowing all the typical little things repeated in zelda games, like how you always have to light torches to make a chest appear.

Shit all to do with the TTLY HAWT PROTAGONIST.

I don't think it has to do with girls much (being one myself), just that the game is fun. As for the fanatics, it has to do more with their personality than the game or characters. I like the game, but I don't dress as a zelda character or tattoo my body with anything associated with it or any other game. I know a guy who bought an actually ocarina because of the game for the N64, that doesn't mean I'm going to assume that all guys are like that.

The reason I play Zelda is because I LOVE the games. I grew up with them for as long as I can remember. But why should we gamers that just so happen to be girls like it any more then a gamer that happens to be a guy? The series is good so you're gender shouldn't matter.

I love the games for how grand the story is and how vibrant the characters are. As I said good game.

You're new here so I can understand you thinking this is true. But why should there be a distinction between male and female gamers?
You have a higher post count than I do, so I can understand why you think I'm wrong. Because there are biological differences between the two genders, both physically and mentally. The latter has the potential to affect the types of games they want to play.
No really, there have been numerous discussions and articles on this website exploring the idea of the gamer girl and we've always found that it's an unfounded stereotype.

I am actually not that great a fan of the Zelda series.
I liked the old ones on nes and snes.
I liked wind waker, and the Gameboy colour ones (also Link's awakening DX).
I hate ocarina of time (except for the Water Temple), and Majora's Mask really annoyed me.
I didn't bother finishing twilight princess and I'm not the least bit interested in Skyward Sword.

Whoever designed the water temple should have been kicked down the stairs, but he apologized for it so I forgive him. I replayed Ocarina of Time and I blazed through it, and was like :/
Maybe when you're a kid you think it lasts forever because OH GOD LOWER/HIGH WATER LEVELS EVERY TWO SECONDS AND IRON BOOTS ON/OFF EVERY HALF SECOND.

There are no gamer girls. Using urbandictionary to support your point is like quoting from Encyclopedia Dramatica. It doesn't fucking work.

Having two X chromosomes doesn't make you any more likely to enjoy Zelda than anything else.

And so with that you'd accept that generally people of a certain gender all enjoy the same things, with few exceptions? Your logic is difficult to follow. As a male I wouldn't be surprised if another male didn't like, say, Call of Duty, because I realise that opinion isn't determined by genetics or gender, so why should it be accepted fact that most 'gamer girls' will enjoy a particular series?

So if I showed you an UD link to the term "hipster", would you still say the same thing?

Logic backed up by a group of anonymous users that have little understanding of sociology, right?

I'd have thought my point was fairly obvious, allow me to try again. Peoples opinions on games, or hell, on most forms of entertainment, has very little to do with gender. People aren't born with a series of likes and dislikes, they aquire them as they grow older, thus gender has very little to do with the way they view things. You can't just simply say that all girls will like a certain thing purely because they are female, that's stereotyping. I'm surprised you expected everyone to accept this idea without question, unless you were simply attempting to be contentious which would make you a troll.
Also your simple, one sentence reply did nothing to adress the points I made in my post, which only strengthens my suspicion that you are trolling. If you are not, you really need to come up with a stronger response to support your assertion.

I'm going to type in large, bolded letters so you can understand this.

URBAN. DICTIONARY. DOT COM. IS. A. JOKE. SITE.

It's entries are done by 4chan regulars. Being a girl has no effect on whether someone enjoys certain video games. I'm starting to think i'm being trolled.

edit: Read the last few posts on page 1, your armchair pyschology is unable to be argued, clearly you are a genius without peer. /sarcasm

Because there's obviously something wrong with being the opposite gender and liking something.

Most forms of entertainment? Have you ever seen a purikura station? Those things are infested with young females. What about Twilight (the one with the glittering vampires)? Those are also infested by preteen girls.

You don't get it. What you're trying to say is that subcultures don't exist unless there's academic research behind it.
