Having two X chromosomes doesn't make you any more likely to enjoy Zelda than anything else.

There's no such thing as a gamer girl. You mean girls who are gamers.

You're new here so I can understand you thinking this is true. But why should there be a distinction between male and female gamers?
You have a higher post count than I do, so I can understand why you think I'm wrong. Because there are biological differences between the two genders, both physically and mentally. The latter has the potential to affect the types of games they want to play.
And so with that you'd accept that generally people of a certain gender all enjoy the same things, with few exceptions? Your logic is difficult to follow. As a male I wouldn't be surprised if another male didn't like, say, Call of Duty, because I realise that opinion isn't determined by genetics or gender, so why should it be accepted fact that most 'gamer girls' will enjoy a particular series?
I thank you both for you logic.
Logic backed up by a group of anonymous users that have little understanding of sociology, right?
That kinda backfired there didn't it? I mean seriously, you lost all your credibility when you posted Urban Dictionary as a source to support your argument. There are girls who play games yes, but the "Gamer Girl" is a made up stereotype that has no basis in reality. The Gamer Girl is the squeely attention whore claiming to be a gamer. So if you were referring to that demographic in your OP I apologise, if you were referring to female gamers in general you should rephrase it as female gamers.
The whole idea was to prove that such a subculture exists. You aren't going to find many academic sources to prove that a certain subculture exists.
Explaining why you used a source that wasn't accurate doesn't make it accurate.
In that case, can you show me your findings on how the aforementioned subculture fails to exist? It's kind of a subjective topic, but I'd like to know about the sources that you told me about several posts ago.

This is based on the more general term of "Gamer", but I do remember it talking about "Girl Gamers", although that could've been another video on this very site. Regardless, I see you've changed your original post to "female gamers" which is more or less all I was here to make you do. I was just trying to make the distinction between, as I said, "Gamer Girls" and gamers who are female.
The wording is another subjective matter, IMHO. In the Silicon Valley, there are "Coder Girls" just as there are "Gamer Girls". If "female gamers" is the more politically correct term here, then I will use that term here.

It's not more politically correct, it means something different, but I'll take what I can get,

Thanks.

Either 1. They think the games are good('cause they are).

Or maybe 2. The games are not sexualized or stereotypical. Link is not a buff dude as in most games where you play as a dude. He's not a soldier. He's a boy on a quest who never talks. You can more or less make your own reason as to why he fights to save the lands. Therefore, you can't really hate him.

Also the games are good, did I mention that?

So if I showed you an UD link to the term "hipster", would you still say the same thing?
I'm going to type in large, bolded letters so you can understand this.

URBAN. DICTIONARY. DOT COM. IS. A. JOKE. SITE.

It's entries are done by 4chan regulars. Being a girl has no effect on whether someone enjoys certain video games. I'm starting to think i'm being trolled.

edit: Read the last few posts on page 1, your armchair pyschology is unable to be argued, clearly you are a genius without peer. /sarcasm
You don't get it. What you're trying to say is that subcultures don't exist unless there's academic research behind it.
How the hell are female gamers a "subculture"? We're part of the overall gaming culture right along with you males.

You're entire thread is based on generalization. Zelda is ridiculously popular and is one of gaming's most iconic franchises, it's not incredibly surprising that it has both male and female fans. Personally (as a female) I have played Ocarina of Time and Windwaker, but have no real obsession with the franchise as a whole, whereas my male gaming friend has played ever game ever released and once made a legit Hyrulian Shield way back in grade 11 art class. What's the deal with guy gamers and the Zelda series?

This entire 2-page thread you've just been an argumentative ass with an obvious desire to erect barriers between male and female gamers. Congratulations on your boys club gaming culture, I guess I'll just take my vagina and my Xbox and go hang out in my little segregated "gamer girl" "subculture". I mean, Urban Dictionary said it, and there's just no fighting facts.

I think female gamers love Zelda because it's an awesome bunch of games. That's why I love it anyway :/

As a guy I can't know for sure, but I'd say probably the same reason so many guy gamers like it. Its damn good.

I guess its a good introduction game as well, provides some fun challenge without being impossibly hard or having a crazy learning curve. The story is also very important to it (...)
I couldn't have said it better.
I'm a female gamer, I like the Zelda-games, the Zalda-games are damn good games.
Nothing else to say.

I'm not impressed by that princess that has to be saved again and again and again. If that would be the reason why female gamers love Zelda then they would have to love Mario, too ;)

Next Poll: Do female Zelda gamers love Mario-games?

Being female does not automatically make you a subculture.

Looking at it from the wrong perspective in my opinion. Lots of girls like Legend of Zelda simply because it's a great series with universal appeal. It may seem like a higher ratio because many of the other top tier franchises in gaming have a testosterone driven pace (ex: Call of Duty) with the occasional helping of male pandering (ex: The Witcher). I don't mean that in a bad way, just a lot of games are made with a specific male audience in mind which then results in less widespread appeal with female gamers.

No, but being a female gamer can.

Female gamers are a smaller portion of the gaming culture, is it not?

Yes, I may indeed be looking at it from a wrong perspective. I was merely under the impression that there are more suitable attributes in the Zelda franchise that caters better to female gamers. However, some of these people are getting way too offended, IMHO.

Only because I don't agree with your subjective points.

that's easy. the legend of zelda is a game with quite a few puzzles. most girls i know do not enjoy violent games (read the *most* part again before you comment on this), but prefer more relaxing games such as puzzles, mmorpgs (the social aspect) and sims (non-combat sims).
on top of that, the legend of zelda isn't specifically aimed at guys. link isn't the ubermacho guy spacemarine. on the contrary, at times sheik is more manly then link.

also, ponies.
Much of the Escapist Magazine community disagrees with the idea that LoZ isn't geared towards the male audience. Do you have any idea why that is?

Probably for the same reasons I do, it?s good. You explore, find hidden stuff, find weapons, fight evil with a sword, do some puzzles, interact with some memorable characters and save the day and all that sort of sort of stuff. There?s a lot there for various people to end up liking.

Really? I'm female and I've never played any of the Zelda series. I grew up playing the PS1 and with Final Fantasy. >.>

I own one of the Zelda games for the Gamecube, but never really tried playing it. <.<

Your title broke the poll question. :\
That's a bit of a generalisation. Though my sister loves Zelda more than I do, I didn't like Zelda past the Wind Waker.

Alot of gamers (both male and female) like the LoZ series. It stands to reason that there would be females who would enjoy it.

And all just because some of the girls that you've talked to like it, doesn't mean that ever single girl who's a gamer likes it as well.
